hihi everyone, I hope all is well. Today I have a full review on the Eucerin Dual serum. If you remember last month I shared my thoughts on the Eucerin skin perfecting serum. At the time of purchase, they were both half price and since I couldn’t tell the difference I decided to buy both. Check out my review on the perfecting serum here

The Eucerin dual serum is A dual serum with Thiamidol and concentrated Hyaluronic Acid for even and radiant skin. Now in new mono-chamber packaging, with same proven efficacy

Experience

I started using this after finishing the skin perfecting serum. The texture of this is much thicker, almost like a gel serum but has the same subtle scent as the 1st serum. This one comes in a pump bottle compared to the dropper bottle of the skin perfecting serum. I used it as part of my pm routine

I found the dual serum so difficult to add to my routine because of the texture. As its the thickest serum in my routine, I layered it over the Estee Lauder ANR which has a thinner consistency. Doing it this way caused it to congeal, almost turning into a paste on my skin. I tried to let the ANR completely dry before layering this on but it didn’t solve the issue and caused pilling. After a few days I just stopped using the dual serum all together. My skin also felt dry. I was also using 2 pumps and I found this to contribute to the issues I was having. Switching to 1 pump only reduced the amount of pilling but didn’t completely stop it

In the second week I then decided to use the serum as directed by the brand, i.e, to use on a cleansed face before other products. This way helped with the weird pasty thing but my skin wasn’t hydrated. My skinfix peptide moisturiser *( review) fixed this though so it was manageable. Eucerin promises a reduction in pigment spots by up to 75%*. First visible results in 2 weeks** however by week 2 I hadn’t used it much because of the issues above so I did not have any results, I think I probably used it 3 or 4 times. I still had pilling issues.

When I finished the skin fix cream ,I switched to the Farmacy honey halo moisturiser* and boy oh boy, the piling was ALOT. I tried using less moisturiser, allowing the serums to fully sink in and dry before moisturiser and using an oil on top of the moisturiser to minimise pilling but it didnt work. I blamed the new Farmacy cream so I tried using a lighter moisturiser, the Tatcha Water cream ( which I have used before and LOVE) but that didn’t change anything! As of 12th March, I’m now testing layering the honey halo over the Tatcha water cream to see if that will reduce pilling- the 1st night was a success, but the pilling returned. I also finished the Tatcha water cream (mini deluxe sample) & the Estee Lauder ANR and replaced this with the Tatcha Dewy Skin cream & Ramsou 100 Bifida ampoule and the buffet serum from the Ordinary. The pilling has been very hit & miss after the change but its been a lot more when it does pill

Verdict

I do not like this serum. Ive decided to stop using this serum because I just wasn’t enjoying it and its going to take too long to finish it. As of 24th March I had been using this for 9 weeks! and I know I’m no where near finished lol. This serum has so many great reviews and it worked really well for a friend however that was when they had the ‘old packaging & formula’ the previous version came in 2 separate chambers within the bottle- the thiamol ingredient in 1 and HA & panthenol in the other so they pumped out separately and you mixed them in your hand. This new packaging is a single chamber hence the ingredients are ‘pre mixed’

I did not like the texture of the serum. It just caused so many issues and it wasnt an easy fit into my routine. The pilling and weird pasty stuff did not make it an enjoyable experience and just prolonged using it. It definitely should have finished by now. I would say I am a bit heavy handed with my products so restricting myself to 1 pump was difficult lol. I tried so many combos to try and reduce pilling and the conclusion is it just doesn’t layer well with products and you have to be really careful with layering. I noticed 1 pump wasn’t too problematic but adding a tiny bit more gave a lot of pilling! I love layering toners but doing this also pilling! leaving the serum out and layering 2 creams & toners? 0 pilling LOL. I tried to use this on my chest so that I didnt have to deal with the pilling on my face and neck and how wrong could i have been! it pilled as soon as it dried LOL Im guessing because of the body lotion i used in the morning?

Efficacy? did it work? I had a lot of moments looking at my skin and wondering if the dark spots were actually fading? Infact I couldn’t even see an overall brighter/ radiant appearance. However looking at these photos side by side I can see some improvements in the pigmented areas. I did get some new spots during the course of use but it didnt lighten them as quickly as the skin perfecting serum. overall I used thiamol for 15 weeks. consistently for the 1st 6 weeks with the skin perfecting serum but struggled with the dual serum for 9 weeks. I finished the skin perfecting serum on the 18th of Jan and started used the Dual serum on 20th of Jan.

Comparison with the skin perfecting serum

Dual serum

  • thicker gel-serum consistency
  • star ingredients- Thiamidol, hyaluronic acid & pathenol
  • key benefits- even & radiant skin, 75% pigment spot reduction & helps to prevent thier reappearance
  • 1st visible results in 2 weeks

Skin perfecting serum

  • thinner, ultra light liquid consitency
  • star ingredients- Thiamidol & hyaluronic acid
  • key benefits- more natural& radiant skin, less pigmentation, 1st visible results in 2 weeks
  • increase in eveness 73% and raidance 55%

If I had to choose between the 2, its the skin perfecting serum for me. I had absolutely no issues with this in my routine, so much easier to use and i had good results. I prefer lighter serums and thicker creams and with the consistency of the dual serum, it just didn’t work for me even though i saw some results. I do prefer the pump bottle though than the dropper because that dropper had a mind of its own lool.

Overall, even though I do like the skin perfecting serum I wont repurchase it but I will recommend it over the dual serum if you really wanted to try it. The experience with Thiamol has been underwhelming to be honest, I was expecting much better results.

I’m now moving onto a new k beauty dark spot serum next month and I cant wait! Ive re discovered k beauty products!
