Hey hey
I hope everyone is doing great. I am back with the next primer review in our Drugstore Primer Challenge. Check out last week’s primer review here. Today, we are talking about the Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser Primer, which seems to be quite popular. I must admit Maybelline is a drugstore brand I am not too keen on. Here in the UK, their foundation shade selection is APPALLING and I know there darker shades available in the US. Nonetheless, I picked up the primer because I am looking at popular drugstore primers and ones easily accessed and the Baby Skin happens to be one of them.
Let’s dive right in
Maybelline’s Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser is supposed to instantly erase pores to leave the skin looking smooth.
Experience
I must admit, I was very impressed by this primer the first time I used it. It is silicone based so it does create a smooth canvas for makeup application. I found foundation application very easy and smooth. It really does make a difference to pores. I have small pores on my nose (more on how I permanently reduced my pores soon) and using the primer instantly reduced them, almost completely.
Apart from its pore reducing abilities, I found the primer to be pretty good too. For me, it gave my makeup a matte finish and held up all day. The primer spreads easily and comes out of the tube very smooth. It’s a clear primer and does not leave a white cast on the face. I didn’t experience any breakouts or irritation with this.
Verdict
I think the Baby Skin is a very good primer and excellent for oily skin types looking for a good drugstore primer. I like this primer a lot but I probably won’t use it all over my face, only because of the matte finish it gave me. I personally prefer a more dewy/ natural finish especially in the winter and I felt as though my face looked dry even though it wasn’t. I would probably just use it around my t-zone where I get oily and my pores are.
If you like matte finishes then I think this primer will be a good base or another primer to add to your collection. If you are a fan of silicone based primers like I am, then you will definitely love this primer. It creates a nice soon canvas for you to work on. I just hope Maybelline increases its foundation shades here in the UK, I would love to try the Fit Me foundations. I think Baby Skin is a good dupe for the Benefit Porefessional.
Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser is £7.99 and available from Superdrug
