Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing great! I have been getting out a bunch of reviews lately (I was so behind on everything!). Today’s post will be a review on the Mary Kay Luminous Wear Foundation on darker skintones which I got back in April and have been wearing it off and on since then.
So I have known about Mary Kay for a while now but never thought about getting anything from them until I saw a friend rocking their Mary Kay Timewise Matte Wear foundation. It looked really nice on her but I personally don’t like matte foundations on me so when I found out about the luminous finish I decided to go for that.
The Timewise foundations come in two finishes, Matte and Luminous. I have the shade bronze 6 in Luminous and my mum has bronze 5 in Matte. I hope the swatches below help, I wasn’t able to find a lot for darker skin especially on the luminous finish.
The luminous finish is suitable for normal to dry skin and has buildable coverage. Mary Kay also says the foundation is oil free suitable for sensitive skin and non comedogenic (doesn’t clog pores). I have bronze 6 which has slight yellow undertones which is perfect for me because I have yellow/golden undertones.
Experience
It feels light on the skin. You can feel you have foundation on, but it doesn’t have a heavy feeling to it. It also looks like a full coverage foundation even though they say it has buildable coverage. I don’t really mind this, I use two pea size amounts (possibly less) for my whole face and a little goes a long way. Obviously you can use more if you want more coverage I personally prefer sheer to light or medium coverage
Wear
I would say it is a long wearing foundation and performs well under heat (Mary Kay does say its humidity resistant). In the pictures, the first pic (alone) was taken after my makeup was freshly done, around 7.30am. Second picture with Renee from OwnbyFemme was taken around 4pm that day. I was really busy that day working at Curlvolution. You can see my t-zone and cheeks are slightly oily. I also noticed the foundation does settle in laugh lines around my mouth sometimes.
The foundation is really luminous, you can see the shimmery particles when you swatch and put it on. I think because it works really well with light that contributes to it looking like a full coverage foundation. It is not transfer proof so take precautions as necessary (although Mary Kay says it’s transfer resistant)
The foundation also works really well with other primers, powders and setting sprays I have paired it with. I apply it with my Real Techniques buffering brush or my kabuki brush I got from EBay. I haven’t had a breakout from using this foundation which I am very happy about!
Verdict
Overall I think it’s a nice foundation. The luminous wear comes in 23 shades and the shades for darker skintones are pretty decent. It feels comfortable on and a little goes a long way when applying. Excellent price point too and is much cheaper than other luminous finish foundations out there!
Mary Kay TimeWise Luminous Foundation is £16 and available from the Mary Kay Website or through your Marky Kay Consultant.
