Hey hey everyone, I hope all is well!

Today I’m sharing my wash day routine after protective styling! I’ve had my braids in for 6 weeks and it’s time to take them out. Protective styling is great, but it can damage the hair when left in too long, leave the hair dry & brittle. I’ve shared my moisture routine with box braids here– I hope you find some tips on how to take care of the hair in box braids😊

Today’s post is all about my wash day after I take out my braids.  There is product build up and my hair is in desperate need of conditioning. My moisture routine means my hair isn’t too dry but of course it’s been a while since it’s been deep conditioned and my hair pre box braids wasn’t in the best state either. Thanks to my moisture routine though, my hair felt the best it has ever felt after box braids.

For post braids wash day, I use my Olapex products. I started using Olapex last year for pre and post care for my hair and its making a difference. Olapex isn’t just for heat or chemical damaged hair, its good for all hair types and damage and as I shared previously, my hair has been very dry, brittle and breaking. My full review for Olapex will coming next week!

Routine

Finger detangle with some oil to get most of the shed hair out. I did it the day before

Olapex for black natural hair

Pre shampoo treatments– Olapex No0 and No3

ShampooNo4C which is a clarifying shampoo. To remove all the product build up and leave the hair clean. My hair feels soft afterwards. I follow up with the No4 which is a moisturising shampoo and this has enough slip for some finger detangling.

Conditioner– I follow up with the No5 conditioner. This one is great because it has slip enough for detangling and I don’t need to use a lot of it too. The texture is light and it spreads well. I leave this on for a few mins then rinse out

Olapex is not a protein treatment and it’s a good idea to strengthen the hair after protective styling so I follow up with a protein treatment. I’m using the Cantu Guava & Ginger Protein masque. I’ve used this 3 or so times, I’m not convinced that its working, I need to use it more to form an opinion on it.

This wash day I wanted to experiment with finger detangling throughout washing and applying conditioner and only use a comb to detangle as I’m washing out the deep conditioner. tbh I liked this, I experienced less breakage and it was so much easier to comb through after the hair had been softened by the deep conditioner. I will try this again

After washing I towel dry my hair and follow the LCO method to moisturise and seal my hair. I do this in small sections

L- liquid. Im using a mix of water & glycerin

C- OGX coconut curls styling milk (I’m not the biggest fan of this but I want to use it up)

O- Cyndy’s hair oil

To stretch the hair this time, I will be threading in smaller sections for the ultimate stretch 😊

That’s all folks! My hair feels great- clean, detangled and moisturised.

I have a trim next month and I’m really looking forward to it– its been a LONG time coming!

Laterrrr- happ
