Hey everyone, I hope all is well. Today’s post will be a quick one on my moisture routine whilst I have my box braids in.

Protective styles like box braids are great but we still need to keep the scalp and hair hydrated and moisturised to reduce dryness and shedding when they come out. I’m on week 3 (of 6) of my box braids, I’ve been using this routine for the last 2 weeks and it’s been working great so far. I don’t keep my braids in for more than 6 weeks, my edges are weak, so anything longer than 6 weeks and they start to break off. Also, my hair is dry, and I don’t like to go too long without deep conditioning or washing my hair.

This routine is very simple and only uses 2 products and another 2 for occasional use.

Spray leave in

I was using the Palmers Mallow Root Leave in* ( I love this leave in conditioner! This was probably my 4th bottle) for the last 2 weeks but I’ve just run out, so I’ve switched to the Mane’s Choice Braid Sheen. The spray leave in makes sure product gets to the root of the hair as well as the hair in the braid. Its much easier to use the spray than a cream for this step. I spray liberally in small sections, focusing on the roots and the braids, scrunching the braids to allow the product to soak into them. The braid sheen smells amazing! And leaves my hair hydrated. I alternate between this and plain water+glycerin just to reduce product build up on my scalp

Hair oil

I know I know. Lately I discovered the no oils no butter trend of YT(I’m super late) but oils and butters work for me so I’m not going to stop using them. The oil I use now is from my auntie’s brand Cyndys and its an all-natural hair oil for growth. I use this on my scalp and massage in for 2-3 mins. I then use a little more on my hands and run it through the braids to the ends of the hair.

Simple! I do this routine every 2 to 3 days or when I feel my hair is dry (scalp starts to itch)

Once or twice a week, I use sulfur 8’s anti-dandruff spray to keep dandruff at bay. I also love the hair freshener* with deodoriser from Cantu’s protective styling collection. This product smells AMAZING, its almost like hair perfume! It has ACV to refresh the hair and it also gets rid of bad odours.

Whilst I have my braids in, I try to not do tight pony tails or high buns, any style that puts extra pressure on my already fragile edges. I still sleep with the satin bonnet too.

I’m so excited for my hair journey this year! I can’t wait to take out my braids to get started properly lol! I been more intentional with my hair and I’m on a quest to healthy hair and I will be taking you with me! I will be looking forward to discovering new products that will become staples in my routine, a good hair salon and an amazing stylist too.

 Catch you later

*- gifted products but opinions are my own. I think the Palmer’s leave in has been discontinued which is sad. I loved this product and I had it for a long time.
