B makeup setting spray

B Cosmetics from Superdrug is one of the good ones! I have tried a few items from them and so far I loved them. Today’s review will be on their Makeup setting spray.

What the brand says:

B. Makeup Setting Spray is that “last but definitely not least” element of your makeup regime, helping give your look staying power and minimising shine. The fine texture of this setting spray helps to empower your look and to give it a just-applied look and feel all day or night. The mist feels almost weightless and prevents shine. Whatever the day throws at you, your makeup will look as fresh as when you applied it.

Experience

The spray is housed in a matte black bottle and sprays in a fine mist. It doesn’t have any particular scent. I was gifted this product a while back.

What I liked: I really liked how fine the mist is from this setting spray. After shaking, I do a few spritz over my face and neck. It dries quickly and doesn’t leave any marks or patches on the skin. This setting spray doesn’t add a dewy/luminous finish but it doesn’t promise that anyway. It’s not an extreme matte finish either. What I noticed was it really helps to help and lock in makeup and keep shine at bay for longer.

I wear powder foundation daily to work and using this to set my foundation (currently the Bare Minerals Pro Powder) I noticed my makeup looked fresher for longer and my tzone which usually gets oily/shiny after 4-5 hours didn’t get oily/shiny as quickly. The thing is I didn’t even notice the benefits that much until I decided to test the powder foundation without the setting spray.

Verdict

I really like the setting spray. I love it for summer/spring when my skin is more oily and I prefer a semi-matte finish. As you know I always prefer dewy/luminous makeup setting sprays all year round even in the summer however I also like layering a semi-matte/matte setting spray over a dewy one to reduce shine.

I would buy this and would recommend.

Timeless 20% Vitamin C& E Ferulic Acid Serum Review

This year I started my ‘tour’ of vitamin C serums, we know the mother of all Vitamin C serums is the very popular SkinCeutical CE Ferulic which also costs £109 for 30ml! So I started my tour to find dupes and the best-formulated Vitamin C serums on the market.

I got the Timeless 20% Vitamin C & E Ferulic Acid serum which is known as a dupe for the skinCeutical.

What the brand says:

Vitamin C in the form of L-ascorbic acid is a super-potent antioxidant that protects the skin from environmental stressors like UV rays and pollution. On its own, it’s super effective at reducing the appearance of fine lines and other signs of photodamage, such as hyperpigmentation and sunspots.

Teamed with 1% of free radical fighting Ferulic Acid and 1% of skin-nourishing Vitamin E, it’s the perfect blend of brightening and firming ingredients, fast-tracking your way to gorgeous skin. It restores the skin’s natural elasticity by supporting collagen production from within. With a natural vitamin C skincare product, your skin is provided with the nutrients and vitamins it needs to replenish. Through the use of the Vitamin C serum, you can provide your skin with a fully nourished, beautifully replenished look without making it dry out or look older and wrinkled.

Enriched with the finest ingredients, including vitamin C, you can enjoy an anti-aging skin serum that allows your skin to feel nourished and loved, each and every time you apply it on. Unlike other skincare products, this product is a proven match for most skin types, to provide the benefits and nourishing effects you’ve come to expect from a high-quality Vitamin C serum.

Experience

I got mine in the restock which meant it came quite fresh. I really like that they have the manufacturing date on them as they are made in batches. I started using it right away, every morning after cleansing and toning. My current AM routine is in the pic above

What I liked: this formula has 20% L-ascorbic acid, 1% Ferulic and Vitamin E which is the best antioxidant combo for protection and to fight hyperpigmentation. Although it’s a high Vitamin C content, I did not experience any irritation or stinging with the serum. It is a very watery serum that goes onto the skin easily and absorbs quickly. It doesn’t pill and layers quite well with other products. What I really like is the addition of Sodium hyaluronate which is hyaluronic acid so it leaves the skin very hydrated.

I started noticing results around 3 weeks, my skin looks brighter and is glowing. I haven’t seen a difference in hyperpigmentation yet but my skin appears healthier and even-toned.

The serum used to come in a dropper bottle but I am so glad it’s now in an airless pump bottle to keep the Vitamin C fresh

What I didn’t like: not really a big deal but it goes out of stock quickly.

Verdict

This is an excellent and more affordable alternative to the skinCeutical CE serum. The Timeless formula has a very short ingredient list and the addition of hyaluronic acid really helps to hydrate the skin. For a high Vitamin content, I did not experience stinging or irritation, this was a pleasure to use.

This serum is made in batches so it goes out of stock quickly but they are very good at keeping customers updated. I got mine in the 1st week of June and started using it on 14/6, I wrote this review on 18th July and I can see it slowly changing colour. it’s not quite oxidised yet but its, not the clear cloudy colour it was when it arrived fresh. I have about 3 days left anyways s I don’t mind.

What’s great about the Timeless website is that they also sell some popular K beauty items.

Mielle Organics Detangling Cowash review

Finding a good cowash is great: one that gently cleanses the hair has enough slip and conditions the hair is the dream. I have tried a few co-washes and I love only 3!

Today’s post will be a full review on the Mielle Organics Detangling Cowash. I was gifted this at a BrownBeauty event some time ago.

What the brand says:

A natural co-wash that detangles and nourishes your hair all in one treatment.

  • Controls frizz and makes detangling easy
  • Lightweight formula
  • Safe for daily use

Mielle’s Detangling Co-Wash is one of the best products we have to offer for beautiful hair. Not only does this natural co-wash remove impurities without stripping your hair of its natural oils, but it also encourages longer, stronger, healthier hair. Use our organic formula to gently cleanse and condition your hair between shampoos, and over time, you can experience less breakage, shedding, and fewer knots. Whether you have thin, thick, or curly hair, you can enjoy easy detangling and better length retention.

Experience

So I normally co-wash when my hair is dry and somewhat detangled or when I have a slick bun and I quickly want to get rid of the gel but I don’t want to commit to a full shampoo and condition. Co washes for me are ‘one step’- cleanse, detangle and condition in one quick go!

With that in mind, I am disappointed with the Mielle Detangling Co-wash. For a detangling co-wash, I didn’t get enough slip from it, I had to use a lot of product in order to get some slip for detangling. I have 4c natural hair but I have found co-washes that gave enough slip to detangle. In terms of cleansing power, the co-wash doesn’t lather which I don’t mind and it does gently cleanse hair. As for conditioning the hair, I don’t find it leaves my hair as soft as I thought it would be. I have used shampoos that left my hair softer.

Verdict

I have only used one other product from the brand which was the Mint Oil which I absolutely loved. I was really looking forward to this cowash but unfortunately, I didn’t get on with it. For my 4c natural hair, I didn’t think it provided enough detangling and conditioning. This is a shame because they specifically market it as a detangling cowash for dry hair. Perhaps a loser curl pattern may gain more from this.

Crème of Nature Pure Honey Conditioner and Edge Control Review

Crème of Nature have a lot of products on the market, my favourite one being the Argan Oil Spray leave-in conditioner. Their Pure Honey collection is a full collection featuring both hair care & styling products. I was gifted the collection back in 2018, and whilst I have only gotten round to using the conditioners, I have been using the edge control for a while. Today’s post will be a full review of the conditioner and edge control.

Pure Honey Moisturising Dry Defense Conditioner

What the brand says

SEAL IN MOISTURE FOR SMOOTH & SOFT HAIR: Lock in moisture and control frizz with our Moisturizing Dry Defense Conditioner infused with Pure Honey, Certified Natural Coconut Oil and Shea Butter.

PRODUCT BENEFITS: Locks In Moisture, Smoothes & Softens, Controls Frizz & Untangles

NO Sulfates*, NO Mineral Oil*

Experience

I have used the conditioner a few times in my wash day routine. Its 355ml and I have been able to get 4 uses out of it. This conditioner smells amazing and the packaging is quite cute( reminds me of milkshakes from Asda lol).

It’s a thick and creamy conditioner which has a good amount of slip for detangling. After shampooing, I divide my hair into 4 parts, then work the conditioner into each section separately, taking my time to detangle and comb through, from ends to the root of the hair. The conditioner provides slip for the comb to glide through my hair easily without tugging and breaking. I leave this on for about 5 mins when I don’t want to deep condition and it rinses away easily. My hair is left softer and conditioned.

Moisture Infusion Edge Control

What the brand says

SLEEK EDGES WITH 24-HOUR HOLD & CONTROL: Infused with Pure Honey, Certified Natural Coconut Oil and Shea Butter, Moisture Infusion Edge Control provides the perfect hold and control for sleek hairstyles.

PRODUCT BENEFITS: 24-Hour Hold & Control, Brilliant & Healthy Shine, Anti-Frizz, Non-Flaking, Non-Sticky, Non-Greasy

NO Sulfates*, NO Mineral Oil*

Experience

Here’s the tea, everyone talks about the Argan oil edge control from Crème of nature and I’ve heard of how amazing it is (I’m yet to use it). I was pretty excited then to try this one because it should be good as the Argan oil one right? This edge control is the classic ‘I will hold you down for 10 mins tops’ lol. The hold isn’t great and doesn’t last. The edge control doesn’t leave white flakes and doesn’t leave your edges looking shiny lol but the ‘perfect hold’ they promise isn’t there, at least not for my 4c hair

Verdict

For my dry 4c natural hair, I love the rinse out conditioner! The main things I look for in a conditioner are slip and softness and the conditioner delivers on those. As for the edge control, I’m not surprised because a lot of edge controls don’t work for my edges. If you have finer or relaxed hair it may work but for my 4c hair, the hold lasts about 10 mins before it curls up and goes back to normal.

Review Round up: Makeup Setting Sprays

Are you a fan of makeup setting sprays? I am. I love using setting sprays when I do my makeup to lock and extend the wear of it. I also love using it to amplify products like highlighters and eyeshadows and melt the excess powder into the skin.

I tend to gravitate towards dewy and luminous setting sprays because I prefer this finish over a matte look but I have also used matte setting sprays especially when I’m on holiday in a hot country( even so I would layer a matte setting spray over a dewy one lol). I also love layering setting sprays, this is perfectly fine to do.

If you are looking for a new setting spray, here are some I have in my collection

Skindinavia Bridal Makeup Finishing Spray– the original version of this has a cult following but I decided to go with the bridal version because I wanted something with a dewy finish. This setting spray is great and does give a natural dewy finish to the skin. I don’t see what the hype is because I have certainly used better setting sprays that set makeup so that it doesn’t budge. Maybe the original version is better so I still want to try it. It’s a good setting spray its expensive but its ok.

MAC Fix Plus Pink lite– I LOVE the original Fix plus and I’ve been buying it since it was only £12! Fix plus leaves the skin hydrated and dewy without looking oily. It’s a holy grail product for a lot of people because it just works. I love that they have expanded the range to include different finishes and scents. This one has pink shimmer in it, it’s not overpowering and too glittery so I love using this as a ‘topper’ and layering it over other setting sprays when I want my makeup to be extra glowing. I can also use it on my chest for extra glow. There is also a gold and bronze version I want to try. The shimmer settles to the bottom so remember to shake well before using!

Cover Fx Illuminating Setting Spray– so this is my least favourite mist out of the bunch. I love CoverFx so when I saw this setting spray I was really excited to try it. This spray is a glitter mess! It leaves glitter/shimmer everywhere and dries patchy. Even when I shook well before using I found the glitter overpowering. I like luminous setting sprays but I don’t like obvious glitter/shimmer. I now use this on my body when I don’t have time to use my body illuminators, this is quick and easy t mist this and go

B Makeup Setting Spray– this mist is surprisingly good. This gives a matte finish and sets makeup so for me I can only use it during the summer months. I have used this intermittently because of the matte finish but I really like it. I usually layer it under a dewy setting spray. (Gifted)

Beauty Pie Jeju Daily Multi-Phase Purifying Cleansing Milk Review

As you know, I LOVE BeautyPie skincare products! I have tried a few and I have lots of reviews of the products on my blog! After falling in love with the Japanfusion Cleanser so much I was really interested in the Jeju Daily cleanser because they are quite similar in terms of the multi-phase textures.

What the brand says

An absolutely marvellous multi-phase cleansing milk – with Jeju Cherry Blossom, soothing Bamboo Grass, Liquorice-Root Extract and Meadowfoam Seed Oil. It’s rich and milky, super-emollient, massages into an oil, breaks makeup down in microseconds and rinses-off like a dream, leaving your skin looking fresh and bright. (Buy a few, so you have backup.) Ultra gentle, for all skin types.

Experience

I have been using it as my first cleanse in my PM routine for just over month now. It’s a huge 190ml bottle and I still have some to last another 3 weeks. It comes in a pump bottle which I have not had any issues with

What I liked: this is a beautiful multi-phase cleanser. I’m not ashamed to say I use about 4 pumps all over my face and neck lol. I massage for about 4 to 5 mins and sometimes even longer (this is not necessary but I really enjoy using this time to watch something and massage my skin). This goes from ‘milk’ to an oil. This emulsifies with water quite easily and rinses away clean with very little residue. This cleanser breaks down SPF and makeup easily and mascara as well. I’ve been using the L’Oréal False Lash Fiber mascara which builds volume by adding fibres and this cleanser does an amazing job at removing all traces of it!

What I didn’t like: there are only 2 very minor details I have picked up but it’s really me just been picky. 1- it takes a bit of time for it to go for milk to oil. Not a long time but it’s not as ‘instant’ as the Japanfusion cleanser. 2. I don’t really want to call it a milk because I think of that as something quite watery and fluid and this isn’t. I don’t really know what to call it but yh lool

Verdict

This is a beautiful sequel to Japanfusion cleanser! Most sequels aren’t as great with a rubbish storyline (except for Lion King 2- that sequel was AMAZING, Mulan 2, on the other hand, wasn’t lol) but this Jeju cleanser stands really well on its own. It’s an amazing first cleanser which removes traces of makeup, mascara, dirt and oil. It doesn’t leave much residue on skin at all and it leaves the skin soft and hydrated. It has a pleasant scent.

I’m really happy with this cleanser and even happier it’s a much bigger size compared to JapanFusion which is only 100ml!

I will definitely repurchase and recommend

If I had to choose between this and the Japanfusion cleanser, I would choose the latter, only because Japanfusion is perfect in my eyes lol BUT if you want an alternative because it’s sold out (which happens a lot), you won’t be disappointed with the Jeju Cleanser!

Beauty Pie Jeju Daily Multi-Phase Purifying Cleansing Milk is £11.29 for members on BeautyPie. For non-members, it’s £28 and I honestly think it’s worth that price!

La Roche Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF50 review

I have heard so much about the La Roche Posay Anthelios Shaka Invisible Fluid so when it was on sale earlier this month I was sure to pick it up!  The Anthelios suncare range from La Roche Posay is quite popular, so I was very excited to try this.

What the brand says:

Ultra-resistant formula specifically developed for sensitive skin. A very high protection, broad spectrum (PPD 46, SPF 50+) comfortable fluid formula that is ultra water, sweat and sand resistant. This non-greasy cream does not leave white marks and does not migrate. Non eye-stinging

Broad, photostable UVA/UVB/Infrared protection (PPD 46, SPF 50+), Ultra water, sweat and sand resistant. Non-sticky, does not leave marks

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS- Very high, broad, photostable UVA/UVB/Infrared protection. Optimal SPF 50+ protection reinforced against UVA rays (PPD 46, stricter than the European recommendation) thanks to patented filtering system Mexoplex® combined with La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water.

DERMATOLOGICALLY TESTED: Anthelios efficacy has been demonstrated via clinical studies carried out in-vivo on subjects suffering from sun intolerances, particularly those caused by UVA rays. Anthelios products all have a high PPD (Persistent Pigment Darkening) factor. The efficacy has been proven by a file of 16 clinical studies carried out by world-renowned expert dermatologists.

9/10 of dermatologists would recommend Anthelios*

MINIMALIST HYPOALLERGENIC FORMULA -The minimalist formula contains the best of our creations designed for sensitive skin and all of its needs. Tested and re-tested for its efficacy and mildness on sensitive skin. It is also hypoallergenic.

 Experience

I used this every morning as the last step in my skincare routine before makeup.

What of sunscreen– chemical

What I liked: the very fluid lightweight texture of this sunscreen goes on well on the skin and spreads quite well. It feels very nice on the skin and doesn’t have an oily finish but it’s not extremely matte either, it almost feels like a powdery finish. It sits very well under makeup and doesn’t pill when layered on.

The sunscreen utilises better chemical filters which offer excellent UVA protection (4* PA rating) and UVB protection

Is it invisible on dark skin? – YES, no flashback, no white cast

What I didn’t like: two very minor things: because the texture is very fluid, it’s very easy for the nozzle area to get a bit messy. As I was getting towards the end, the ball in it that helps shake it kept blocking the nozzle area.

Nothing major

Verdict: I think this is an excellent sunscreen that is worth the hype. I LOVE very watery fluid textured sunscreens so it no surprised I really like this one. This 50ml bottle lasted just over two weeks. It has a slight alcohol scent but I don’t find this overpowering nor does I dry out my skin.

I will repurchase and definitely recommend it.

The Shaka fluid now comes in SPF 30 and there is also a tinted version (I doubt that will be suitable for dark skin though)

Lancôme Genifique Youth Activating Cream Review

I started my venture into Lancôme skincare last year when I purchased the Genifique skincare gift set which came with the 30ml Genifique serum and a 15ml cream. This post will be a full review of the cream.

What the brand says: Génifique Crème Start your journey for younger-looking skin with Lancôme’s Génifique Cream, a daily moisturising face cream that promotes a more youthful skin appearance.

This velvety formula provides moisture and leaves your skin feeling velvety soft to the touch with a radiant glow.

Experience

The 15ml size lasted for about 3 weeks, I started using it in my night time routine but it didn’t pair well with the serum I was using it with so I moved it to my day time routine. After I stopped using that particular serum, I started using the cream in the evening again, so I was using it twice a day.

It has a strong perfume scent.

What I liked: the cream has a beautiful velvety texture that feels silky and smooth on the skin. It spreads really easily and doesn’t pill when layered on other products. It leaves my skin feeling moisturised without any oily residue.

It contains ingredients and extracts known for skin moisturising and soothing properties and some barrier repair ingredients.

What I didn’t like: I mentioned I had to stop using it for a while in my night routine because it wasn’t pairing well with my serum. The serum I was using was the new Estée Lauder Vitamin C serum. What was strange was that I would use the serum over my face and neck but when I layered on the cream, my face would start tingling (not a lot but I felt it) but my neck would be fine. I also didn’t get that sensation when I used the cream in the morning over a different vitamin c serum. I’m not sure if it was the cream or the Estée Lauder serum but something wasn’t pairing well

Verdict

This is definitely a luxurious cream. The texture and scent are very reminiscent of expensive skincare. Is it worth the hype? I don’t think so. I didn’t notice any huge improvements in my skin whilst using this? No.  Do I mind getting it again in a gift set? Of course not, I did like using it but will I go and buy the full size? No.

Nivea Shine Control SPF50 Review

The Nivea sun range from the drugstore is one of my favourite SPF ranges, I have tried a few from them, Q10 SPF, Mousse SPF, Moisture Lock SPF and so far I have loved them

Today’s post is a full review on the Shine Control SPF 50 sunscreen with 0% sticky feeling.

What the brand says:

NIVEA SUN UV Face Shine Control Cream SPF 50 provides immediate and effective sun protection. The light formula offers a long-lasting and instant mattifying effect. The cream absorbs excess oils from your skin’s surface. Your skin will be protected against UVA / UVB induced skin damage and High Energy Visible Light effects such as premature skin aging. Your skin will feel light, non-greasy and non-sticky. The skin compatibility of this sun cream has been dermatologically proven. The product also has an eye-friendly formula and is ophthalmologically proven as well.

Light formula with instant and long-lasting mattifying effect

Absorbs excess oil from skin surface

Light skin feeling, non-greasy and non-sticky

Ultra Spectrum Protection – protects from UVA / UVB induced skin damage and High Energy Visible Light effects, such as premature skin ageing

Experience

Type of sunscreen– chemical

What I liked: the cream textured sunscreen feels light on the skin without a greasy or oily feeling/residue. It takes some rubbing into the skin but the aftermath is good. It provides a semi-matte finish which I surprisingly like (I don’t like matte finishes) but it also leaves my skin glowing and somewhat hydrated. Of course, I love the high sun protection factor with newer and better chemical filters. The formula also has Vitamin E for some antioxidant protection.

It has 0% sticky feeling

Is it invisible on dark skin? YES, 100% invisible on the skin

What I didn’t like: I noticed it works best when you don’t have a lot of moisturiser underneath this. When I use a bit too much moisturiser and layer this on, the Nivea SPF piles like crazy. This didn’t happen often though, only when I would use too much product underneath

Verdict

Another excellent and affordable sunscreen from Nivea and the drug store. I recommended this to a friend with oily skin so I naturally I had test it out to ensure I recommended a good product!

Highly recommend for oily skin because of the mattifying effect, and it will also work well just layered on serum if you have extremely oily skin. I have normal to combo oily skin and I really like this too.

I love this and I would 100% repurchase

Caudalie Vinopure Purifying Gel Cleanser Review

Caudalie’s new Vinopure Purifying Gel Cleanser promises a lot of things. The brand says:

The first essential step in your beauty routine against blemishes, the Purifying Cleansing Gel, enriched in natural salicylic acid, grapeseed polyphenols and organic* essential oils, cleanses and purifies the skin without leaving it dry. Its gentle and effective formula works to tighten pores, reduce excess sebum and visibly reduce blemishes. Its gel texture leaves skin feeling instantly fresh and clean. A light and surprising, 100% natural scent derived from a unique complex of essential oils that delivers a breath of freshness with each use.

Benefits: Purifies, Tackles blemishes, Minimises pores and Reduces excess sebum

Experience

I received the 30ml size as a free gift with purchase from Beautylish.

I’ve been using this cleanser both morning and night (as a second cleanser)

What I liked: this cleanser has salicylic acid (BHA) which helps to reduce blemishes and reduce pore size. I really liked this cleanser because it did exactly that. I had a few breakouts in my lower cheek area and this cleanser helped. The cleanser produces a light foam which is easy to rinse away but doesn’t try out the skin. Normally around this time, my skin would be oilier but I have felt my skin be more balanced. It has a minty medicated scent but this doesn’t linger. It’s gentle enough for daily use. As a second cleanser, it works well to remove makeup and oily residue left over by my balm cleanser

Verdict

This is a great cleanser and I would highly recommend to oily and blemish-prone skin types. The BHA in the cleanser helps reduce breakouts and pore size as well and balancing the skin. I used this twice a day but it never dried out my skin. I like the fresh scent and feeling it leaves my skin. I won’t recommend this for dry skintypes

I will definitely purchase this but it would be a cleanser I use in the warmer months as that’s when my skin tends to be oilier and blemish-prone.
