OMI Solanoveil Protect Face Milk SPF 50 review

I have now tried 5 Asian sunscreens from YesStyle. 3 were amazing but the other 2 were not. Today’s post will be a full review and demo on the OMI Solanoveil Protect Face Milk SPF 50 PA+++. This is alcohol-free and has ‘beauty care’ ingredients like hyaluronic acid and arbutin.

Experience

The texture of this sunscreen is extremely lightweight and runny, I don’t think the ‘milk’ texture describes it well. Unfortunately, this sunscreen is not suitable for dark skin and it leaves a very tell-tale white cast on the skin. It doesn’t feel extremely matte on the skin. I got this after watching a review on YT and they commented on how invisible it was on the skin. The Youtuber was white however I do also watch her other videos as she has used quite a lot of Asian sunscreen reviews. I got some of the other SPF’s she has used and they were fine on my skintone. If you have white to light skin this sunscreen may be able to work for you. It’s one of the few Asian sunscreens I have come across that is alcohol-free.

Verdict

Not suitable for dark skin unless you cover it with makeup however it may have flashback. I wouldn’t recommend it as there are other SPFs that are 100% invisible. I am getting 4 more Asian sunscreens to test out before I start working on my Asian sunscreen edit. For now, you can check out the other Asian SPFs I have reviewed: Missha SPF 45, OMI Waterproof SPF 50

Kose Clear Turn 30 Botanical Essence In Cotton review

I have been incorporating Asian skincare items in my routine since March and so far so good! I have a few reviews of the items I have picked up form YesStyle on the blog and making my way through the rest of them.

Today’s post will be a full review and demo of the Kose – Clear Turn 30 Botanical Essence In Cotton. These are cotton pads soaked in 30 unique essences from botanical extracts and promise to soften and hydrate the skin.

YesStyle Korean Beauty Haul

Experience

These are like square sheet masks and the directions are to apply after cleansing and leave on for 5 mins. It doesn’t state the essences on YesStyle. It comes in a big pack of 72 squares.

I originally got these to use as neck & chest masks when I have my sheet mask on. It doesn’t work well as a neck sheet mask because it doesn’t stay in place understand but for the face and chest, it works well. The squares have a subtle pleasant scent and I did not experience any irritation from them. I have used the squares as sheet masks (in the pic below) however lately I have been using them as toner wipes, using them in the mornings, one for the face and another for the neck before misting with Vitamin E from the BodyShop. These square are pleasant to use and they do leave my skin hydrated. It doesn’t leave a sticky residue and it doesn’t pill under other skincare.

It is well packaged. I have had this pack open since March and they are still wet and haven’t dried out on me! The only con I can think of is that the squares are quite thin, they come out in duos instead of one but they can be separated easily. The cotton material doesn’t break apart when wiping the face with it.

Verdict

These are great to use as sheet masks or toner wipes. I find them hydrating and very easy to use. The bulk size of these means they will last ages and they won’t dry out! Not great as neck sheet masks (what is though? it’s a tricky area) but fantastic for the face and chest! I am very happy with this and will purchase again. If you love sheet masks, I will recommend this. This is my second product from Kose and I am impressed. I will definitely keep my eye on this brand!

OMI – Menturm The Sun UV Protect Gel Water-Proof SPF 50+ Review

OMI - Menturm The Sun UV Protect Gel Water-Proof SPF 50+ Review

I have been busy testing out Asian sunscreens and this post is an update on the SPF haul I did back in March from Yes Style. I told you guys I am working on an Asian sunscreen edit for dark skin so I have slowly been making my way through my batch. Today’s post will be a full review and demo on OMI – Menturm The Sun UV Protect Gel Water-Proof SPF 50+ PA++++ and how it looks on dark skin.

OMI is a popular J beauty brand and this SPF promises to ‘blend’ moisture into the skin and formulated with 7 plant extracts. They say it’s waterproof and suitable for the skin & body

Experience

I have been using this sunscreen for the last month and I am halfway through the bottle. It is a very lightweight consistency, they describe it as a gel but it’s more of a very light essence/lotion consistency. It has a ‘noticeable’ alcohol scent. It’s not too strong but you can definitely notice it, in fact, ethanol is the 2nd ingredient in this SPF.

The SPF sinks into the skin well and the way I apply it makes a difference in terms of the finish and feel of my skin. The 1st time I used it, I rubbed it into the skin and it made my skin feel very tight & dry later in the day. So dry that I purchased another cream (thank God I work in a hospital) to moisture my face. In this application, I didn’t use a hydrating serum underneath so it may have contributed to the dryness too. For the 2nd time, I used a hydrating serum and slathered the SPF on, but I let it absorb into the skin naturally and gently pressed the excess into my skin. My skin was left hydrated and later in the day my skin it didn’t feel as dry & tight. I have also used this method with a non-hydrating serum and my skin felt better than my 1st time so this is the way I have been using it. There is still some dryness later in the day but nothing compared to my first time.

Is it invisible on black skin? YES. This SPF sinks into the skin quickly and it’s completely & 100% invisible! There is no flashback with this under makeup and it doesn’t sting my eyes. I have also used this on my body and again completely invisible.

Verdict

I love the super lightweight texture of the SPF and the fact that it’s invisible on the skin. I do not like the alcohol in it which is responsible for making my skin feel dry throughout the day. You will also notice the alcohol scent. As for being waterproof, the 3rd ingredient and others are insolvable in water but I do not have a way of testing the waterproof claims out.

Compared to the Missha, this one came completely full. Easy and functional packaging. It’s bigger than the others, this is 100ml whilst the others are 50 ml.

Will I recommend? Hmm, I want to say yes but with caution because of the alcohol in it. Definitely not for dry skin and I would recommend a few others before this.

Will I repurchase? Yes but as a very last option and not right away. I will be purchasing a few more SPF’s soon from Yes Style.

I’m conflicted: LOVE the texture and invisibility on dark skin but ethanol as a 2nd ingredient? The evidence is clear this is not one of the good guys and it causes dryness. I haven’t experienced any irritation or breakouts from this.
