Dermalogica PowerBright Review

Hey, guys, I hope all is well and everyone is doing great! It looks like summer 2016 is here! What are your plans? Onto today’s post, this will be the full review on the Dermalogica PowerBright Pure Day and Night moisturisers.

Been a #WOC, I suffer from hyperpigmentation especially around the perimeters of my face. So from October last year, I have been taking my skincare very seriously and searching for products to help even out my skin without bleaching obviously. After having a face mapping analysis at a Dermalogica event, I was recommended (and sent) the PowerBright Pure Light, Pure Night and the Special Cleansing Gel.

                                                                                            Pure Light SPF 50

purelightOne of the many reasons why I love this is the high factor SPF, factor 50 with high UVA protection! I have found SPF especially a higher one is essential when fighting hyperpigmentation. This one is very lightweight and doesn’t leave my face with a white cast (thank God!) and no flashback! Compared to the Ultra-sun which I used to use and really like, I couldn’t wear that alone because it left a white cast but this doesn’t. Also with high SPFs, they tend to be really oily/greasy but this isn’t excessively oily/greasy. For very oily skin types you may feel like this is very oily but it actually isn’t after you work it into the skin. It’s easily and quickly absorbed!
I have noticed a huge difference in my hyperpigmentation. It’s formulated with Oleosome Technology which helps to regulate melanin protection and Red Algae to help balance uneven skin tone. My skin appears more radiant and the darker areas appear better. I also like the fact that it didn’t break me out.

Pure Night

pure-night_199-01_590x617The Pure Night feels very rich and luxurious on. I especially like it because my current cleanser makes my skin slightly tight and putting this on afterwards makes it feel replenished. Again because of its rich texture it can come off a bit oily. I use half a pump for my entire face and neck. The night time moisturiser also helps to control melanin production and hyperpigmentation and if formulated with Vitamin C for brightening, Raspberry seed oils and Oligopeptide.

                                                                                                Verdict
I love the very high SPF especially now it’s summer and I started using acid toners which make the skin more sensitive to the sun. The combo has made such a huge difference in my skin and I am loving the results (super sad my Pure Light is running out!). Darker skin tones, if you are searching for SPF that doesn’t leave a white cast or cause flashback this one is definitely one to try! Both moisturisers come in pump bottles which obviously makes things more hygienic.

I will say to be careful with the Pure Light because it comes with an expiring date (mine expires at the end of the month, noticed this by chance!) and I won’t recommend you use the product after then. The Pure Night has a 12M shelf life after been opened. In conclusion, these products are very effective and you will get results! Do our skin a favour and invest in these products! I highly recommend them. Also, a face mapping analysis is free and I recommend you get one done so they can give you personalised products. They will provide you with samples to try out!

Pure Light is £55. Pure Night is £66.50 and both can be purchased on the Dermalogica website. I will also bring a review on the Special Cleansing Gel soon.

Love

SipnShare with Illusions Cosmetics

20160604_154528

Hey guys, how was your weekend? Good I hope. I went along to the Sip & Share event with Illusions cosmetics on Saturday and discovered new makeup and a brand dedicated to women of colour!

Illusions Cosmetics is the brain child of two celebrity makeup artists and twin sisters, Denise and Janice Tunnell and has everything you need from foundations to eyeliners and lipsticks! The brand created in 2006 boasts of celebrity clientele and is most known for their lip-glosses. The brand was created for WOC in particular Black women.

The event was to meet Denise and Janice, play around with their makeup and learn a bit more about them and their journey to success. The sisters have a very impressive CV, Denise has worked with the likes of Taraji P. Henson, Megan Good, Mike Epps and movies like Hunger Games, Fast &Furious 5&7! Janice also has many films under her belt including Step Up, Fighting Temptations and Destiny’s Child! I found their story inspirational and testament to follow your dream even though your background maybe completely unrelated! They both hold degrees in Accounting & Business management and were fulltime accountants for the most part of their makeup artist journey!

After their opening address, we were free to play around with the makeup. After swatching some of their luxury lipsticks and eye dusts I must admit they are very pigmented and really pretty!

Then there was a quick Q & A with Rhia from Pride Magazine. I had a bunch of questions I wanted to ask but time did not permit urgh! After some (a lot) of pictures were taken, it was goodie bag time (filled with PreMae & Illusions Cosmetics goodies reviews to follow soon!) then home time! I had so much fun and it was great meeting the sisters and Clare from JoClare PR!

For more information on the brand, please visit the website, Illusions Beauty

I believe you can order via the PR company, contact JoClarePR for more information.

Top Drugstore Blushes

I love drugstore makeup! The drugstore actually has some pretty good brands and products that are excellent value for money! Blushes are one of those makeup products that can add or take away from your whole makeup look. For women of colour, we have to choose colours that compliment our skintone without making us look ashy or like a clown.

My top 3 picks for drugstore brands that make a range of colours and are very affordable are Sleek, Barry M and Elf Cosmetics. Between them they have so many colours which are really pigmented and are budget friendly! I have swatched the blushes I own from these brands so you can see them against my skintone.

Sleek Blush by 3 palette priced at £10.00, Individuals priced from £4.49

I love Sleek Blushes because they are really pigmented. In my picture, I only used one swipe! These palettes are also great for travelling, it has a large mirror and a shimmery shade which can be used as a highlighter! The Sleek website frequently has offers going on, be sure to sign up for the newsletter. I bought all of mine in a sale!

Available from Sleek

Barry M, £4.99

Barry M blush 4

I fell in love with this blush after I saw it on one of my girls! A little goes a long way with this blush! Many a times I have been heavy handed and ended up looking like a clown! It’s very affordable too.

Available from Superdrug (if you hurry, Superdrug has a 3 for 2 offer on all makeup!)

Elf baked blush, £4.50

Elf Rich Rose

Even though it’s a blush, I like to use it as a highlighter most of the time. It looks really nice on WOC. I like to apply this wet by spraying my brush with Mix Plus or the Vitamin E face mist from the BodyShop. This gives it a radiant glow and makes it pop! Excuse the packaging, I have had this for the longest time! Elf cosmetics have a lot of affordable makeup so you definitely have to check them out!
