Brand review: B Makeup and Skincare

B skincare and makeup is a collection of highly effective products at budget-friendly prices. The B. brand is exclusive to Superdrug and is vegan-friendly. I’m sure you have seen these in your local Superdrug and if you have ever wonder if they work then this post is for you! The skincare collection is a thriving group of products which have been categorised into ‘phases’ based on your age. Phase 1 is for late 20’ & 30’s, Phase 2 is for 30’s, Phase 3 is for late 40’s and skin phase 4 is for late 50’s. The other products that don’t fall within a ‘phase’ are in the targeted solutions & cleansers collection. The Makeup collection has foundations, concealers, lipsticks and other makeup products suitable for a range of skin tones. I have tried products from all the collections and in this brand review, I will share my thoughts on the products and how to use them in a routine

Skincare

Most of the items I have tried are from Phase 1 and the targeted solutions & cleansers collection. They have a good range of cleansers, I have tried the Creamy Foam Hydrating Cleanser, Micellar water and the Sensitive Micellar Cleansing Wipes. I have also tried the Stubborn Eye Makeup remover and this is AMAZING. I took part in the blind blogger challenge, see details of that plus a review of the remover here. The hydrating cleanser feels very gentle on the skin and removes daily grime, oils and makeup residue with ease. The cleanser doesn’t strip my skin and I have enjoyed using it as my morning cleanser. I love the Micellar water which I have reviewed here. I have repurchased the micellar cleansing wipes a lot of times and I have a full review here

Routine stepCreamy Foam HydratingCleanser- AM or PM cleanser.  Micellarwater & Sensitive Micellar Cleansing Wipes- to remove makeup. Follow with acleanser. Stubborn eye makeup remover- as an eye makeup remover

Spritz, Essence & Boosters

There are 2 mists: Hyaluronic Acid Spritz and Vitamin Facial Mist and I love them both! I have repurchased the Hyaluronic Acid Spritz several times and I have a full review of this here. I was recently sent the Vitamin Facial Mist for this brand review and I added it to my routine straight away! I used the mist both day & night to add a boost of hydration to my skin. It sprays in a fine mist and has a refreshing citrus scent.

Routine step– after toning either AM or PM

There is 1 essence in the collection and it’s the B. Refreshed Essene Lotion. I LOVE this! It’s very soothing and hydrating and doesn’t leave the skin sticky. I have a full review here. The B.Hydrated Booster was also sent to me for this post and I must say have fallen in love with it. It is a booster so I don’t need to use it every day, I just reach for it when my skin needs an extra boost of hydration. It feels very light on the skin, even lighter than the essence and adds hydration to the skin. This leaves my skin looking more radiant. The only thing I do not like about the booster is the dispenser. It is the same as the dispensers of essential oils. I think it is this way because they want you to use less as it is more concentrated. I use about 4- 5 drops over my face and neck and sometimes even on my chest. I mostly use this at night but I can imagine it been great for morning use too.  I have really enjoyed adding this to my routine especially as we are in winter and it does exactly as promised. I have normal to combination skin and this has worked well for it. I think drier skins will find the booster particularly helpful.

Routine step- Essence lotion either AM or PM after toning.  Booster- as needed. Use after toning.

Serums & Creams & Masks

I have only tried 1 serum from B skincare and it’s the B. Confident Night Serum. It is light textured serum which feels lovely on the skin. It doesn’t pil and layers quite well with other serums. I will have a full review of this soon but I do really love this. For moisturisers I have tried the B. Confident Day Cream– I love this so much! It reminds me of a Murad moisturiser I used a few years back. Its lightweight non-oily and feels luxurious on the skin. It leaves the skin soft and radiant. Definitely, one to try! I was also sent the B. Hydrated leave on mask to test out for the review. The mask is the only product I didn’t like. It’s a leave on mask but as always and with all my leave on masks, I put on a little more than recommended so that I can wash it off. With this mask, I felt like it didn’t hydrate my skin and it didn’t make a difference. This mask comes in a small pot so it lasts about 3 applications. I am now out of it but it’s not something I would not purchase.

Routine step Serum- in the PM after toning and before moisturiser. Day Cream- in the PM. Mask- 2 to 3 times a week.

Makeup

Foundations & concealers

There are two foundations from B, the B.Silky foundation (11 shades) and B. Matte Foundation (12 shades), whilst they are not the biggest shade ranges, they have even amount of shades across skintones so its not 10 light shades with 2 dark shades. I have both foundations and they both feel lightweight on the skin. I love the packaging of the foundations and I like how different they are compared to normal drugstore foundation. The foundations are not the longest wearing foundations and I would recommend them for casual wear. I dont remember them oxidisng on my skin. The flawless concealers are the latest products to be launched from B makeup. I was sent these and I will have a fullreview for Brown Beauty Talk soon.

Primer & Setting spray

I really like the HD primer in this range. It is a silicone based primer that smoothes pores and helps extend makeup. I will have a full review on this soon. The Setting spray also helps to extend makeup but doesn’t add a dewy finish to makeup. It also doesn’t make it extremely matte.

Verdict

B skincare and makeup is an impressive drugstore brand. The brand is ever growing and has some new products in the pipeline.  I love the skincare collection and I think they have some really good and reasonably priced products. The makeup collection has a good range of products from foundations to makeup brushes and lipsticks. I do really like the brand and I will always recommend it!

My current skincare routine- Combo skin with Hyperpigmentation

Hey guys, I hope you are all well!  Thought I would do an updated and more detailed skincare routine post as I have changed a few products I have been using in my routine. I hope this helps and if you have a similar skin type and issue with mine, hopefully, this gives you some product recommendations

About my skintype and issue

I have normal to combination oily skin type. My oily areas are my tzone. My main skincare issue is hyperpigmentation. Now that the weather is getting slightly colder, I will also add more hydration/moisture to my routine.

Morning skincare routine

Tbh, I never bothered with a ‘proper’ morning routine, I just did the basics and headed out the door. Now I am learning to do a tad bit more in the mornings to help my skin heal quicker and protect it during the day. I haven’t worn makeup to work in a long time, simply because I just don’t want to spend time doing that and I hate rushing when I am doing my makeup!

For my morning routine, I focus mainly on hydration and protection.

Cleanser- African Black Soap. Purchase high-quality pure African Black Soap from Ghana on Shea Butter Cottage. Read more on African Black Soap here

Toner- I recently finished my Garnier Green Tea Leaves Purifying Botanical Toner (read the review on my Instagram) so I have started using this new Naturally Radiant 5% Glycolic Acid Toner (Superdrug is stepping up! I will review this product once I finish the bottle oh btw I got 2 bottles)

Spritz- Caudalie Grape Water.  I always follow my acid toners or toners in general with a water spritz for hydration

Serum – Boots Botanics All Bright Radiance Serum. Review of this here

Moisturizer- I switch between The BodyShop Vit C Daily Moisturizer SPF 30 and B Confident Day Cream SPF 15. If I use the B Confident Day cream, I like to use Piz Buin SPF50 on top too

Serum- sometimes I follow with The BodyShop Vit C Skin Reviver. This is a must use if I feel like my skin looks dull or I haven’t had enough sleep (which is most of the time anyway lol. that damn Netflix! Yes I am still watching!)

Spritz- I switch between Pixi Wake Up Vitamin Mist or Superdrug Vitamin E Hydrating Mist

Eye cream- If I remember I use Boots Essential cucumber eye gel

Lip balm- Burt’s Bees

No makeup so I will finish here and off I go to work!

Evening Routine

I must admit I have been pretty lazy with my evening routines not following it as I should. But here is a list of everything I am using.

For my evening routine, I focus mainly on treating my hyperpigmentation.

Cleanser- Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel (yes I still have it, I have taken so many breaks from this but I am now desperately hanging onto the last drops of it). Combo with my Vanity Planet SPS face brush

Toner- Naturally Radiant 5% AHA toner

Spritz – Caudalie Grape Water

Serum- I layer two serums. 1st – Kiehl’s dark spot corrector then The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin with HA (when layering serums you want to go from thinnest to thickest)

I may follow this with The Ordinary Azelaic Acid or go into my night cream. I will re-introduce retinol in my evening routine soon. But even with that, I would use it 2-3 times a week.

Night cream- Boots Botanics Hydrating Night Cream (I just finished this today! So I guess I will be switching to AA cream)

Eye Cream- Superfacialist Vit C

You know the deal with evening routines, 2-3 times a week is mask night. I switch between a couple of masks depending on what I feel my skin needs. Lately, I have been reaching for The Body Shop British Rose Plumping Mask and the Glam glow Gravity Mud Mask

Ok, that’s all folks. My current morning and evening routines and a list of products I am using. I have linked reviews to all the products I have reviewed on my blog so make sure you check them out if you want more info on that product. I have also linked other posts I feel may help you in building your routine.

How to create a skincare routine

Remember skincare routines require consistency and persistence so keep at it! If you miss a day or two or three it’s no biggie, it happens to all of us. Just try to get back on it again. You will see results soon!

Can you believe it’s almost Christmas? Sigh- my account ain’t ready for this!

Love always

Superdrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic Acid Daily Cleansing Pads Review

Superdrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic Acid Daily Cleansing Pads Review

It’s no surprise I’m obsessed with acids, I mean I have a post here and here about it and reviews on products which contain them here and here too! I haven’t had the best experience with the Naturally Radiant Collection from Superdrug however when I saw these I just had to give it a shot. I’m talking about the new Naturally Radiant Glycolic Acid Daily Cleansing Pads which look a lot like the Nip Fab pads.

The Naturally Radiant Glycolic Acid Daily Cleansing Pads are infused with plant extracts and promise to improve skintone and texture and awaken skin’s natural glow. It’s been formulated with AHA and fruit acid blend as well as aloe, witch hazel and Pro Vitamin B5 to improve skin’s clarity and smoothness of the skin’s surface

Experience

The pads come in a tub container and contains 60 pads. I use two daily, one for my face and another for my neck and chest. The pads are moist but not as moist as I would like them to be. They haven’t dried out since I started using them. Superdrug recommends you use the rough side of the pad 1st and the smooth side 2nd. I didn’t know this until now- it says this online and NOT on the container.

I’ve been testing out these pads and I must admit I like them. I use them as the acid toner in my routine, after washing my face and before misting with a water mist. I’m not sure of the acid content as it is not mentioned on the packaging but I assume it’s quite low, maybe 2% or less( I could be wrong). They don’t sting so misting is really optional with these pads.

I have noticed a slight improvement in the texture of my skin but not necessarily an improvement in skin tone or brightness yet. I feel it makes my skin look smoother and pores reduced. It’s also great for catching any last bits of makeup that is still hanging around after washing. They have a pleasant scent.

Verdict

I think these pads are a perfect dupe for the NIP FAB Daily Fix Glycolic Pads. They perform the same way and they are much cheaper than the NIP FAB ones. I will recommend these to anyone looking to start with acids but not sure where to start. I wish they would state the acid content of the pads on the product or online just so I know how much acid I am using. But to be on the safe side I always use SPF anyway.
