SLEEK LIPSTICK SWATCHES

20150301_192308

Hey guys hope everyone is doing well! HAPPY NEW MONTH!

I wanted to take a break from constant uni work (countdown 2 more months to finish!) and hair posts (not everydayhairpostsometimesmakeup LOL) and do something different (looks around my room for inspiration) so I decided to do a sleek lipstick collection and swatches. I did a post previous (link here to view it>>http://wp.me/p1uQOd-nV ) and it was my sleek make up collection not a big one and it’s a start. This is a kind of updated version but with lipsticks only.

I had fun doing this post but my lips are killing me! (Softly) I am also using descriptions from the sleek makeup site because honestly I can’t describe the shades (LOL) to save my life!. I didn’t use any lipliners so you can see the true colour.

If you’re from instagram hey guurl! (Make sure you followed me and like my little flipgram as a little preview to this post. If you’re just reading this, please check out my instagram page- @sarahfynn. I will keep you updated with my blog, hair/beauty products and other shenanigans

Let’s get started.

First here is what SleekMakeup have to say about their lipsticks:

‘Get high impact lips with True Colour Lipstick in a gorgeous matte and sheen finishes in a variety of shades that are highly pigmented, and conditioning to keep lips soft and supple. Enriched with vitamin E helping to hydrate and protect the lips. Comfortable to wear and glides on with ease this is the must have to awaken your makeup look.’

What I LOVE about Sleek Makeup is the price- everything from foundations to lipsticks are so affordable and very good quality. The matte black packaging makes it look really expensive. Their lipsticks are highly pigmented with a huge variety of shades to suit every skin tone. The price? £4.99

Tip- sign up to their newsletter. From time to time they offer discounts e.g. 20% off or 2 for 1 deals and that’s how I got all my stuff from them! (I am yet to try their eye shadow pallets, I have heard great reviews about them but since I’m not a great fan of eye shadows… hmmm)

Beware there is a lot of me feeling myself pictures (lol), bangs over one eye and general neekiness lol. And this is going to be a long post

It’s true
Just mentions of the places we have been to together triggers emotions
I wonder how it’s been so long and I am still locked in place like a lock and key model from science at GCSE
It’s that time of the night
Where whispers of my past interrupt with my thoughts for the future
3am knows all my secrets. My pressure points and weaknesses
struggling to see by my laptop light as i write these tears in my journal.
It’s the usual
how and why did I cause myself so much pain?

4am
Dig deeper.
Forget how useful the branches look and get to the root.

He was my sin, a pain I once loved and held on too dearly
Difficult to swallow- take responsibility for your part

His interlude
2.45am

Did I love her?
Or was she just accessible and readily available

Was it love?

Or a mere like because I was fascinated by her

A high school crush like feeling been experience now that I am in university

She was different from the rest

And I was draw to that not really understanding it or stopping to think if I could handle it

4.30am her

Sarah it’s time to lay to rest

Yh it was real nice

But the devil wears Prada

And boy did it look good

Got you thinking don’t it

You aint no victim

Release the pain and let healing flow

Rest will come if you sit by still waters

He’s waiting. Go on up

Christ compels you.

Last year I learnt about heartbreak that left me gasping for the very air I breathe

Taking me higher and leaving me breathless whilst still tryna perform CPR on me

And in this year I found love

And loves shaped as a cross

And it’s coloured red

And I can’t believe I was standing in his presence asking for love but accepting a cheap imitation of it elsewhere

Unplugged and Appreciated

dont actually turn it off, lol, but hey what ever works for you.

On a recent flight home to London, I was inspired by an article I read. Having related so much to the topic, I decided to take a spin on it.

Picture this: you havenot seen your friend for a very long time.  After months of talking online you finally decide to meet for lunch. You get there and after the exchange of the ‘hellos’ ‘hi’ and ‘oo I like *insert item of clothing here*, you sit down and put your phone on the table. Face up.  On silent (how wonderful).  (But the phone is only there because I might want to take a ‘selfie’ with the girl I haven’t seen for ages and instagram the amazing arrangement of food in front of us #foodporn! And anyway it’s on SILENT)

So the conversation is in full swing whilst waiting for your appetisers. It’s a busy night so you would probably wait a while. You sneak looks at your phone whilst she’s telling you about her next big career move but all of a sudden you are been seduced by flashing lights. (Now almost every phone now has some sort of notification light right? Which can be colour coded.  So if you’re like me white is for whats app.  Blue for emails. Green for twitter and purple for Facebook)

White and blue lights flash across your eyes and just like that you’re thinking who it might be. And as quickly as you take your phone, unlock the screen and just to read that 75% off asos newsletter (as good as that sounds and yes please count me in. Payday next wweeekkk….) . She awaits your reply. So the standard smile and ‘oh right’ comes in, which is just as bad as asking her to repeat herself.

We crave social gatherings, outings etc. The whole process of putting together an outfit to planning where to meet adds to the anticipation.  We love to show off the friendships we have with different people and showing off where and ‘how’ to have a good time. Yet when we actually get there, face to face and find ourselves in the very situation we were waiting for, we plug ourselves in our online worlds, a virtual world that seems all too good to be true when in actual fact: reality is failing and may not be as fun as you think as others stare at it. (Yet as seen online right?)

I am too a culprit and a victim. Many times I have gone for dinner or lunch, having planning my outfit and makeup from days before, only to get there and plug into my social media. I am not a hypocrite. However I did set myself a challenge and I urge you to do the same.

Challenge this: so for two weeks, my friend and I decided the no phone rule any time we sat down for a meal. And for two weeks straight we had almost 3 or 4 meals together a day. The challenge was very simple- we sit down and talk with no phones on the table or checking phones or whatever. (Easy right?)

So, the first couple of days I kept on forgetting and found myself reaching for my phone a few times. (I wanted to find out what was happening on twitter or what pictures have been recently uploaded on instagram. I follow a lot of funny accounts so who doesn’t want a good laugh?) Towards the end of the 1st week, I made sure my phone was in a different place/room than where I was, just so it will be easier not to reach for it.

And by week 2, things were fine. We spoke a lot. About different things. I was able to have my phone back in the same room as me whilst having dinner/lunch with my friend. Both of us did. And not a single time did I reach to check my phone.

I am not saying if you have your phone with you in these situations you won’t be able to talk with the person you’re with etc. No it’s just a sign of respect and what is putting your phone away for about 1 hour going to change?

Until next time guys, have a great day. (Watch out for my next article- plugged and unappreciated where I talk about the amazing development of technology in the recent years and the simultaneous rapid decline in our appreciation for them. Also inspired by an article I read on the same flight.

If you didn’t watch the video look up on Facebook, it’s a great video that relates to this topic. You can check it out by clicking on the link- http://youtu.be/Z7dLU6fk9QY

What do you guys think of the whole situation? Is it been over or under estimated? Drop a comment below with your thoughts. I would love to hear your views.

THE TRUTH ABOUT BEEN SKINNY

towo

Disclaimer: I am not fat – shaming and slim praising.  This is not my intention.  This topic is very close to my heart and I am simply attempting to share my thoughts and views on the matter.

I think the problem is not what society defines as beautiful (I am in no way underestimating its influence) but rather the problem lies within ourselves and what we think beautiful is when we catch a reflection of ourselves in the mirror.

What started it all, although I have been thinking about doing this for a while now.

http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/5460625?ncid=fcbklnkushpmg00000046

It is true that obesity is a worldwide problem that needs a permanent solution. According to the WHO website, 2.8 million people die annually from obesity or been overweight. Childhood obesity is steadily rising and it scares me- but that is another post all together.

With that been said, there are still millions of people- both MEN AND WOMEN who have serious issues with weight gain. How do I know? Because I am one of them.  Having family members tell you to eat more or random strangers walking up to you and telling you are skinny. Telling a slim person to eat a burger because they look hungry is the equivalence of telling an obese/overweight person to eat a salad because they don’t look hungry. It’s RUDE. Period.

RUDE, OFFENSIVE, DISRESPECTFUL AND INCONSIDERATE.

In the world we live in today, been too big is a problem.  Been too small is a problem too. And whilst I both acknowledge and accept the fact that there are serious health consequences of been at the extreme ends of the weight scale, it is also worth acknowledging that some people do truly have difficulties in gaining weight and not because of some eating disorder or mental disorder of anything else you could come up with but simply due to nature- that’s how their body functions and maybe down to genetics.

If there is possibly a gene that pre disposes a person to obesity, then couldn’t there be one in the opposite effect? One that pre disposes a person to been naturally slim or slimmer than usual?

I will tell you why this topic is so important to me: I am a 21 year old woman weighing about 49.5 to 50kgs and standing at 5.5/5.6 feet. On a BMI (Body mass index) scale I am classed as underweight.

Now if you know me or within months of getting to know me, you will hear about my many attempts of epic fail weight gain stories or my numerous researches about weight gain. And I have good researching skills. And I have tried them all- appetite stimulants, heavy weight lifting, mass gainers etc. and all equals no weight gain.

And in my culture and even society nowadays, been bigger is better (and I am not talking about been obese/overweight). The bigger your buttocks, sway of your hips and heave of your chest when you walk = desirability.  And it’s easy to feel left out.

BUT STILL

One day I caught a reflection of myself in the mirror and stared hard at myself and realised how far I had come in life, my achievements and my failures were not due to my weight. And I prayed for courage to accept it. And yes I have the days where I am obsessed with weight gain. Of course, I am human.

Disclaimer 2: once again I am not praising been slim. I am simply stating there could be another way where people stay slim other than the negative stereotypes. Strive for good health. And if you have serious concerns about your health/weight please seek medical advice. I purposely used the word skinny less and slim more because to me it denotes a sick/ill person and it is simply not the point I wish to put across.

And once we pray and accept the things we CANNOT change and LEARN to deal with them in a SAFE AND PROPER manner, then life well life would be so much better.

Xx

Have a good day

Cadiz: little town Great beaches

Located in the south of Spain. Cadiz is one of the oldest cities in Spain. Thanks to its location, it boasts of some of the most beautiful beaches I have been to.  Its all about weather and if youre lucky enough to catch the sun whilst here do not miss that opportunity to go to the Tk3 bar in El puerto de Santa Maria where you can get some really good cocktails famous within the town. Stroll along the beach which is right opposite the bar or sit by the fires and reminisce of all your travel adventure. This is where good company is needed. (Or if you are a solo traveler you will love the tranquility)
20140419_225534 20140418_152759 20140418_152820
Eat fried calamares and drink tinto de verano in another well known restaurant I  el puerto called Romerijo’s. Also try tortillita de camarones .Dont forget to visit los italianos in the center of cadiz to taste some good icecream to cool down in the sun. (Try the strawberry! )

Also try to visit Puerto sherry and have lunch by the beach in one of the resturants. I had lunch at an italian restaurant called blanca paloma.

The city of Cadiz is good for history. Dont miss the wall in the center and the castle. Visit the park Genovés opposite the university of Cadiz. Notice how most of the houses are white.

I think that as this was the last city and bad weather I didnt really get a sample of the place, however I do plan on going back there soon. Hopefully I can get more pictures and better ones too.

Granada: small town with rich muslim roots

20140417_163000

Make no mistake as you walk through Morroco I mean Granada,( see what I did there). Thinking youre in Morroco!  I was pleasantly surprised on how similar some patterns and parts of the town was to Morroco.  So it was no surprise when the main attract in Granada is the la Alhambra.
20140416_170922 20140416_143222 20140416_142504
Granada was apparently the… wait you want the best features of the place not the history( thats Wikipedia’s job)

Stroll along the river outside the las Alhambra. Its a sort of hill with pebbled ground so wear sturdy shoes. Go into the Alhambra if you can.

Take a walk into tge center and enjoy more muslim influenced architecture.  When you get to the plaza de carmen there is a road that has a lot of restaurants. ( so bummed I didnt get a picture or the name of the place I ate at but I do have a picture of what I ate :))

My time here was very short. First i missed a day because the only tickets available from Valencia to Granada were overnight, therefore I only had one day there, however I was lucky enough to see the Paso de semana santa ( which I did not enjoy!)

Ok folks that’s all. I hope to go back there another time and spend more time there, so until then its off to Cadiz- the big finish ( For now)

VALENCIA: A TROPICAL PARADISE

20140413_161201

Valencia, the birthplace of the famous Paella (watch how I learned to make this later!) and the 2nd city on tour. With palm trees and sunshine, I felt like I was in a tropical paradise. Again I was surprised on how different this city was compared to the others.

What blew me away about Valencia was… everything! There was something about this place that kept reminding me of a tropical island. Maybe it was the trees, or fountains or just the open spaces I saw either way, here are the things you should miss whilst there

The city of arts and science

Park Turia

Stay in the Ayre Hotel Astoria Palace. This hotel is the bomb.com! I was surprised and in doubt for the duration of our stay there and how much I paid for the room. To me, this is a 3 to 4 star hotel but booking through agoda.com ( which by the way I totally recommend) I paid 106 euros for a double room and a private bathroom for 3 days 2 nights. This hotel is really nice. Its location is perfect! It’s not your typical backpacker’s hostel/hotel!  I stayed on the 8th floor so you can imagine the view!

Take a walk to Park Turia which is all around the city. I first went to the place with the massive sculpture of Gulliver (from the movie Gulliver’s Travels) and my inner kid surfaced! (So yes I did go down the slides and climb it too)

20140414_135422 20140414_135351 20140414_135341

Then I went into the park itself with the flowers and fountains and the trees. Then I found out that the final of the Spanish cup was been played in Valencia and the Real Madrid camp was right there! I even saw the coach which was on its way to pick the players and went past the hotel the players would be staying at! And all of this and it was the last day there!

20140414_134255 20140415_182445 20140415_182624

Also visit the many plazas I saw but forgot to take pictures because it was soo hot.

And of course eat Paella and drink horchata both very typical of the city!

Don’t be scared by the number orange trees you see, it’s very common there. Also try the agua de Valencia (translation- water of Valencia) I didn’t get to try this so I don’t know if its water or another drink but do let me know when you go!

Let your inner scientist out at the city of arts and sciences and explore the very fun and interactive science museum.  You need a maximum of 3 hours in there. And I say that because there are so many interesting and interactive games and activities for everyone! From building an arc hand mind battles to seeing ghosts! I think this place is for all ages! These are a few pictures from the museum.

Next visit the hemispheric and catch a show about the universe!  With the intelligent design of the place (well it looks like a hemisphere) you feel like you were right there in the moment! Language options are available for the audio. And also student’s discounts are offered so remember your student id!

There was also a market which I went to but forgot to take a picture of the name.

BARCELONA- CITY BY THE SEA

20140412_205736_Richtone(HDR)

Spain’s second most famous city, located in the east in the Catalan autonomous community (it is the capital city of this community), there is a lot I can say about this beautiful city. From the famous Camp Nou for the football fans, historic buildings and architecture for the photographers and history fans to the amazing food for the foodies, it comes as no surprise that Barcelona is a popular destination for travellers and my starting point of my 11 days tour around Spain!

I was excited for Barcelona. It was only the 2nd time I had been out of Madrid but nevertheless I was looking forward to it. After months of planning and saving for my trip, I boarded the overnight train to Barcelona on the 10th of April, due to arrive there at 7 am next day!( if you are already in Spain and want to travel there, check out renfe.com, alternatively you can catch a plane there too) I was pleasantly surprised on how different Barcelona was from Madrid, building, culture, food and even language(they speak Spanish there too almost everyone can speak Spanish however the main language is supposed to be Cataluña). I wonder if that’s why they want independence and all.

These are my thoughts/suggestions for Barcelona

Don’t miss

The Sangrada Familia

Font màgica de Montjuïc/ Fuente mágica de Montjuic (Catalan/Spanish)

Park Guell

Barcelona port

Las Ramblas

Stay in

Low to medium budget –Pension Segre which is where I stayed. About 10 mins walk from the Drassasans train stop which is about 10-15 mins from the main train station.

Literally 5 mins walk to Las Ramblas and the Barcelona port

Have lunch in Las Ramblas. You are spoilt for choice on the number of restaurants you can choose from. Almost all offering the same meals but different deals so if you’re not too hungry have a good look around at the deals about. I ate at the San Remo. And if none of the restaurants tickles your fancy there is always those bars/tapas places on either sides on the roads you can have a pizza or tapas at. Drink Sangria or Tinto de Verano. Don’t miss the hotdogs or crepe by the port and remember to take a river cruise whilst there! You can also check out the shopping centre and visit the bar which gives you a view of the sea. Make sure you come out at night. With all the lights on the city really comes to live!

20140411_153406 20140411_151534

Visit the market, La Boqueria located just of the Las Ramblas. Fruit heaven! You will enjoy fruit salads or shakes for very cheap. Have a look around there are other things to discover!

20140411_184653 20140411_160707 20140411_160427 20140411_160432 20140411_160540 20140411_160640

You cannot miss the show at Fuente mágica de Montjuic! Try and get there for 7’Oclock when the show starts. Any time after that and it will be crowded and you may not get a place to sit.

Get your hiking shoes on and go to Park Guell it’s located on top of a sort of hill so it’s. Long walk up!

Sagrada Familia is worth a visit too!

20140412_135355 20140412_135351

I tried to visit as many things as possible been in Barcelona. When every time I’m in a city I try to walk as much as possible. So that’s exactly what I did. I only caught the bus or train when I was going really long distances or in the evening when I was so tired to walk back, but other than I walked everywhere and I discovered some cool stuff which may not be on the map!

Ahh what else can I say about Barcelona? Other than I will definitely visit there again and stay longer! But in 3 days 2 nights you can get a feel of  Barcelona and enjoy what it has to offer.  Next stop Valencia!

Everyday Inspiration- Regal Fro

Hey guys! So I’m back with another post in my everyday inspiration series! This time, the beautiful Regal Fro joins the many women on here sharing her inspirational story and advice for natural hair. So sit back and relax and get to know Regal Fro!

“Regardless of how you choose to wear your hair, remember you are a naturally beautiful woman.”- Regal Fro

regalfro31. Tell me about yourself- where you were born, your name, age what do you do?

I am a 34 year old, mental health advocate/inspirational speaker from Mississippi.

2. Where there a lot women with natural hair from your hometown/ where you were born?

I no longer reside in my hometown. However, I see women who are wearing their hair in its natural state daily.

3. Ok, with this in mind, did you find it any easier or more difficult to transition to natural hair?

It was only difficult because I didn’t have anyone I knew personally to turn to for hairstyling tips. Once I realized that I could get styling tips from naturals on YouTube, things became easier.

4.Now the big one- why did you choose to transition? Can you remember the date? How long has it been?

I began my transition because my daughter wanted to know why her hair wasn’t “flat” like other girls. I transitioned for 16 months. I began in August 2011, and I cut off my relaxed ends on Dec. 31, 2012.

5. Did you feel that making that decision was hard for you especially when most of the women around you had silky straight hair?

I made the decision to return to natural hair because of my daughter. As a result, I really was not concerned about how other women around me wore their hair. In addition, I never felt criticism from those around me regarding my decision to return to natural hair. I had to remember that I was once one of those women who had “silky straight hair”.

regalfro26. Cool, now let’s talk hair products, hair routines- did you have to change any of your hair products?

Yes. My transitioning hair was totally different from both my relaxed and natural hair. When my hair was relaxed, I only used shampoo, conditioner, and oil once a week. During my transition, I keep the same shampoo and conditioner but had to switch oils. I also had to apply oil more frequently and use styling products. The products I used were: Garnier shampoo and conditioner, almond oil, and flax seed gel.

7. What products have helped you maintain your natural hair?

Currently, I use the following products on my hair:

-Clarifying: Apple Cider Vinegar

-Conditioning: Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Conditioner & 3-Minute Undo Dryness Reversal Treatment

Moisture: Cantu Natural Hair Coconut Curling Cream

Oil: Cococare Castor Oil

Stylers: Eco Styler Gel with Argon Oil, Homemade Flaxseed Gel, and Garnier Curl Calm Down

8.Has there been a change in your hair routines? Like the number of times you wash your hair a week, how you protect your hair when you sleep? Protective styling? ( weaves, braids, ponytails)

My routine is simple. I clarify and co-wash my hair once every 15 -17 days. I deep condition once monthly and moisturize daily.  I protect my hair at night with a satin bonnet or scarf. I am not a big fan of protective styling because I enjoy wearing my hair out. However, during my transition, I wore mini twists for the last few months.

9. A lot of women I have spoken to say they want to go natural but find there are hardly any products for them. Can you recommend good hair products and if possible where to get them?

I rarely recommend products to people because I keep the products I use to a minimum. In addition, I do not switch products often. I would say that I companies have done an excellent job in developing products for natural hair. Product accessibility is probably better than it has ever been. If you are in an area that does not have retailers that carry natural hair products, then I recommend that you search the websites of large retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Walgreens. If you are unsure about what products to use, or would like to try various product, I would recommend a natural hair subscription box service such as Curlbox or Curl Collection. With your subscription you get products sent to you and you are able to test out the products. This can be helpful in saving time and money.

10. Would you advice any women to go natural? And why?

I believe that deciding to return your hair to its natural state is a personal decision that a woman should be allowed to make without pressure. In my opinion, it is a matter of respect. I wanted people to respect the fact that I wanted to transition back to natural. Therefore, I want to respect the decision of any woman who decides that having natural hair is not for her.

11. And finally what the best piece of advice you would give to a woman who has just decided to go natural?

Connect with other naturals as soon as you can and utilize social media outlets. Never be afraid to ask a natural via social media about products, styling tips, or just to vent. Normally, you will find someone who has tried the products, will tag you in a style photo, or experienced something similar. In other words, CONNECT, CONNECT, CONNECT!!!! You do not have to go on this journey alone.

12. If you want to add anything else please feel free to do so.

Regardless of how you choose to wear your hair, remember you are a naturally beautiful woman.
