Crème of Nature Argan Oil Moisture and Shine Shampoo Review

Crème of Nature has been a brand that’s been around for a while! I love their products especially the Argan Oil Collection! It performs well and it smells great. Whilst I haven’t tried a lot of products from the brand, what I have tried I have loved! One of my fav spray leave-in conditioners is from Crème of Nature, check out the review here

Today’s post will be a full review on the Crème of Nature Argan Oil Moisture and Shine Shampoo. This is a sulfate free shampoo that promises to gently cleanse the hair, help detangle whilst adding shine, softness and strength to the hair. It’s been formulated with Argan oil from Morocco.

Experience

I have had this shampoo for a while and I have been using it on and off as I had older products to get through. For the last month and a half though, I have been using it consistently and I am now out of it. This shampoo has the same great scent as the rest of the products in the Argan Oil collection.

The shampoo has a thick consistency and a fair amount gives a lot of suds. I really like this shampoo because it really softens my hair. I have been wearing my hair out a lot lately and been quite lazy to moisturise it, actually I have chosen a slick bun as my protective style so it’s quite difficult to properly moisture without having to take it apart and start again so it’s safe to say going into my weekly wash days, my hair has been dry. The shampoo gently cleanses my hair and scalp and softens it.

In terms of detangling, I think this shampoo provided enough slip for finger detangling which I absolutely love. It always makes subsequent detangling with conditioner and a comb easier and quicker even when my hair is tangled quite a bit. I think I took a while to use it because it thought it wasn’t suitable for natural hair so I was only using it on my wigs for a while. It also performed really well on them

Verdict

An excellent choice of shampoo for all hair textures including natural hair. I really like how it softens my hair and helps me detangle it. The scent is a bonus. One thing I will comment though is the texture of the shampoo changed in the last few months I was using it HOWEVER I have also used it on and off for 2 years (don’t judge me) or maybe longer and once a product is opened there is a best before time period to use it by. It still worked absolutely fine anyway but just something to note if you have had this shampoo for a while and it looks like it has changed textured.

I will recommend this.

Simple Natural Hair Routine

Natural Hair wash days, who can honestly say they look forward to it?! I’m yet to meet a natural who LOVES wash day and can’t wait to get to detangling her beautiful curls/coils LOL. I thought I would share my simple natural hair routine to help you build your own if you are looking for one. My wash day routine is simple and sweet and only takes about 1.30 hours when I am not been lazy lol. let’s get started. I will link reviews to the products I mention as well.

Simple Natural Hair Routine

You’ve probably watched a bunch of YT videos showing a ton of different steps/ methods. The issue with that is some of those steps are unnecessary and just add time to your wash day. I learned simple is better and sticking with what works for my hair is also better.  My wash day routine is 5 simple steps

Pre-pooCoconut oil or any oil mix I have. Letting it sit for 10-15 mins

Shampoo– I rotate shampoos as I have a lot to review but I always use them long enough to get a feel of how they perform. My top recommendations for shampoos are the ORS Monoi Oil Shampoo and the ApHogee Deep Moisture Shampoo. Read all about shampoos here

Condition/Detangle– we all know the importance of conditioning and detangling natural hair. I love conditioners with a lot of ‘slip’ which makes it easier to comb through my 4c hair. I always detangle with a wide tooth comb but once in a while, I will also follow it with the Thick & Curly Tangle Teezer. For conditioning, it depends on what I want for my hair. For a quick & light protein treatment, I opt for the ApHogee 2 min Keratin.

Let it sit for 10 -15 mins with a hooded dryer or  a plastic cap

Moisturise– I follow the L.O.C method using water as the L and switching different oils and creams. I love leave in conditioners. SM JBCO leave in is an all time fav but I also love the Aphogee Curlific and Cantu leave in.

Styling– because of my work schedule, I opt for protective styling during the week. this means after moisturizing, I will flat twist my hair in prep for a wig. When I do have my hair out, I will use the banding method to stretch out my hair (another post on this coming soon) or do two jumbo flat twists

That’s all folks! my simple natural hair routine with no gimmicks or tricks! Be sure to check out the reviews I have for the mentions I have mentioned! I am working on some more hair posts for my blog- it seems like I have totally abandoned the hair section of this blog lol.

Looking for Hairspiration?

From natural hair to weaves, a simple and nice hairstyle will complement any outfit and makeup and instantly smarten your appearance. However, it’s hard to think of a new hairstyle every morning, especially when you are pressed for time. I sit down with Racheal Adjei, a Media and Communications graduate and the founder of the hairspiration app, which gives its users hairstyle inspiration.

WHAT IS HAIRSPIRATION?

2015-10-09 19.36.37

Hairspiration was thought of years ago – but not in the form of an app. I remember looking for a hairstyle I wanted to do for my first day of Uni and wondered why there was no easy way to find hairstyles except for Google really. I never knew that years later I would actually end up having to do it myself! I had noticed that even on google most black hairstyle images were that of celebrities, and to be fair as much as they have great hair there wasn’t as much variety as you would think there is. A lot of us ladies get stuck wearing the same style time and time again. Very rarely do we try something new, there was a time when literally every girl I would see had a side or middle part weave no matter the occasion the hairstyle was the same everywhere I went. I wanted to switch it up, it’s boring.  At the same time a lot of us are scared to try something new especially if you don’t know a stylist who can really pull the look off for you. Some hairdressers are great at certain things but not others.  Currently, Hairspiration serves as a gallery for hairstyle inspiration, which anyone can try but is centred on Black Hair.

WHAT MAKES HAIRSPIRATION DIFFERENT

It’s everything in one place, yes you can look up hairstyles on social media like Instagram, but it can be chaotic because you’re likely to follow so many different pages for different things, one that does natural hair, and then one that is great with colouring. Hairspiration has an Instagram and we post different hairstyles too but there is hardly any order with such platforms. Hairspiration is in categories to make your search easy.

HAIRSPIRATION IN THE NEAR FUTURE

The future of Hairspiration hopes to be a long lasting source of all black hair, natural hair, locs, weave, relaxed hair you name it, it’s there.  It’s brings everything that is great about black hair together in one platform.  Hairspiration App is working with salons and stylists, to showcase their work, making it easier to connect our users with stylists they know can pull of the type of hairdo they want.

HOW IT WORKS

Within the app there will be a listed menu where they can view hairstyles from the following categories and ‘star’ hairstyles into their favourites section – which certainly comes in handy when showing your stylist what you want.

interface
interface

My thoughts- I have personally used this app for the last month to test out its ease of use and its style gallery. It’s quite easy to use- everything is divided into different categories with clear pictures which are easy to understand and follow.  She also features simple hair care advice, mini product reviews as well as video tutorials for some styles. In conclusion, I will recommend this app for all your hairstyles in one place, instead of looking at many different sources for it. Try it out, it’s completely free!

CANTU FOR NATURAL HAIR

cantu_product_2

Hey guys! Welcome back

So quickly this post will be a 1st look at some of the products Cantu sent me. Guys look at my Cantu collection its growing lol!

IMG_20150701_202723

So I bought most of them with my money expect of the 3 I am about to tell you about. They sent me

Coconut oil shine and hold mist

Curl activator cream

Grow strong strengthening treatment

IMG_20150701_202519

So from my understanding, the coconut oil shine and hold mist is like a spray leave in conditioner. On the bottle it says it provides lasting moisture and shine and rehydrates and refreshes curls. The curl activator cream is pretty much straight forward and I plan on using this for a twist out soon. The strengthening treatment is a cream which can be used daily to moisturise and strengthen the hair. It also protects from heat damage. So maybe you could use this as your daily hair cream.

I really like the whole Cantu for natural hair line! They smell SO GOOD. For more information about the whole line and the product list, check out my previous post >> http://wp.me/p1uQOd-yF

I am planning a Cantu wash day soon! I really need to get the deep treatment masque then I will be set lol. Until then, I will be using the coconut oil shine and hold as a leave in spray under my wigs and I will report back to you! I was really confused on this product, because it says ‘hold’ in the name I thought it’s more like a hold spray that you would you set your hair styles. The curl activator cream feels a bit sticky and kinda thick for a lotion. This will probably be very good for wash and go’s for type 4 hair.

That’s all folks, really quick post to let you know about the products. Thank you Cantu for sending me the stuff and I can’t wait to use them! You can get the full range of the Cantu for natural hair line online at BeautybyZara  >> http://www.beautybyzara.com/cantu/

That’s all folks,

Until next time

HAIRFINTIY 1 MONTH UPDATE!

IMG_20141103_172756

Hey family, hope everyone is doing good and enjoying the weather (no of course you’re not enjoying this freezing cold weather LOL!). However good news is here! (Well for the people who have been thinking of taking hairfinity but are just not quite sure if you want to invest in it!) I have my one month update even though it’s long overdue (I have no excuses). Right so let’s get into it!

Most important question: DID I EXPERIENCE GROWTH?

YES. Normally my hair grows about ½ an inch monthly but I would also say my hair sheds quite a bit. Now obviously that would make it difficult to retain any growth right? So, how did hairfinity help? Well for starters shedding was reduced by up to 70% or more I think. I experienced less shedding during detangling and washing! I wish I took pictures but from month two, I will begin to add hair pictures to these posts.  As you can see from my measurements, I first measured my hair on the 29th of September; however I didn’t start taking hairfinity till the 2nd of October. So from then until the 2nd November when I actually measured by hair, I have experienced about 2 inches growth! As you can see my crown area did not grow (weird) and I have no idea why!

WHEN DID YOU TAKE THE PILLS? ARE THERE CERTAIN TIMES THEY WORK BEST? IF I MISS SOME PILLS WILL THAT AFFECT MY GROWTH?

I didn’t have a set time I took the pills, but mostly I took them in the evening( only because in the mornings for me I would be rushing  about for uni or work so it wouldn’t have been ideal for me.) It also did not matter for me if I took them before or after a meal either. About missing pills, there were some days I missed. Some days I couldn’t remember if I had taken them or not so just to be safe and not overdose I did not take them that day. Also there was a whole weekend I was away from home and didn’t take the pills with me, so in total I had missed about 4 days or more, so then I would take them the next day which is probably why I didn’t finish the bottle exactly on the 2nd of November. But I have been taking them for 30 days.

ANY SIDE EFFECTS? BREAKOUTS? GROWTH IN OTHER AREAS?

Not for me! The one thing I was worried about was breaking out as almost every woman on YouTube said. To try and combat that I started drinking a minimum of 1 litre of water a day to flush out any excess vitamins/minerals so as to reduce the chances of a breakout. Did it work? YES. However, ( yh there is always a however or but) I started using lemon juice as a toner to help with my complexion and the results have been phenomenal! I am not exaggerating. I USED to have breakout prone skin, but since I started using  lemon juice as a toner PLUS drinking lots of water, my skin is glowing. Like GLOWING.

As for hairs in other areas I have not noticed any weird growth anywhere else. Although my friend has told me about her eyebrows growing a lot LOL (now I wish that happened to me since that woman who threaded my eyebrows made it so thin, but let’s not go there)

OVERALL THOUGHTS?

A lot of people also talk about how it made their hair softer, thicker (especially at the roots) and healthier. For me, in terms of thickness, I have not noticed a difference. My hair is naturally very thick especially at the roots so in my all processes of detangling and washing I have not noticed a change. As for my hair been softer, again before I started hairfinity my hair was quite brittle as I used to shampoo every week and blow dry after every wash. But (see another but!) in starting my hairfinity journey, I also started a no heat challenge for 3 months. I have noticed a difference with my hair been softer but I can’t say for sure if its hairfinity or cutting out the heat. I also made a few changes to my routine- cowashing every week and shampoo every other week. Hot oil treatments once a month and more finger detangling. (Probably not the best idea now that I think of it to start new things at the same time) so I guess time will tell with that area. I also noticed my nails been a bit stronger and growing a bit quicker.

My overall impression is good for month 1. I think it’s a good investment but be ready to also make some changes in order to help promote new growth instead on fully depending on a pill. I am now on my second bottle and I hope the results can continue.

FIRST LOOK- RHOVIRGIN EURASIAN TIGHT CURL HAIR

Hey family! I hope everyone is well and doing good. Just briefly, I wanted to share my new hair extensions from RhoVirgin Hair Company. Check out my previous posts about them by clicking on these links. http://wp.me/p1uQOd-ok , http://wp.me/p1uQOd-hz

So this time around I wanted a different look, I normally get body wave extensions or loose waves but this time I decided to let my inner diva out( like it hasn’t been out all this while lol!) and I was on the hunt for something new. My inspiration came from Tokyostylez instagram page ( and ladies if you are a hair fanatic you NEED to follow this guy, his wigs are LAID. Period) I was browsing as I do and came across this beauty

LOVE
LOVE

And I needed that texture in my life. I started to look around and again on instagram and on the RHOVIRGIN page she had posted this and I was sold!

not quite the same but similar
not quite the same but similar

I got 3 bundles and a matching closure- 24. 20. 18 plus 14 (4×4) closure of the EURASIAN TIGHT CURL HAIR ( also a new texture I havenot had yet) also I have never used 3 bundles for my hair before so again, something new. I think the specs of her hair in the picture are 22.20.18 and a 16 closure. Either way I am in love with this hair and I havenot even installed it yet.

First impressions?

Well she has stepped her game up since the last time I purchased hair from her. Your package will now come with business cards and an instruction sheet on how to care for your tresses including recommended products.

The hair has a pleasant smell. Almost like new clothes you order online if that makes any sense. I know and have heard of people who got hair from other vendors and were not pleased with the smell. Quick tip- you can either co-wash and deep condition if you don’t like the smell or for really strong smells, I have heard some girls use (wait for it) fabric conditioner to wash it out! ( cant comment on its validity though). A nice smell is always welcomed and a good sign.

Bundles were true to length and were full from weft to tip. The hair naturally has some very beautiful brown/blonde highlights so my dark and lovely jet black box dye gon have to wait! LOL. The thickness of the bundles was also expected as in you get less hair on longer lengths and more hair on the shorter lengths. The knots on the closure were bleached and it came with baby hair. The ends of the hair were in ok condition, a bit frizzy but nothing a good deep conditioning session cant fix.

So as always I co-washed and deep conditioned the hair and allowed to air dry over night.  This is a side-side picture of hair straight of the packet and freshly co-washed hair. Curls be popping girl! The ends are back to life!

top pic- freshly co-washed bottom- fresh out of packet
top pic- freshly co-washed
bottom- fresh out of packet

For co-washing, I used my co-wash mix I mixed up myself ( 900ml conditioner and I recommend conditioners for dry/frizzy hair in  this case I was using tresemme salon silk conditioner for frizz prone hair or something of the sort, 50ml herbal essence shampoo with Moroccan argan oil and 50ml argan oil- for extra moisturising properties) I use this mix on my hair as well and my curls be popping like crazy lol! Obviously I do not use a 1000ml of product on my hair at one time, its just a mix I have in my bottle I use.

Afterward I just deep conditioned with macadamia nut extract deep conditioner( smell? Amazeballs!), put in a bag and let it sit in hot water for about 10 mins! Cold water to rinse the product out and air dry

I also sealed my wefts with fray stop glue (this stuff is a nightmare, I mean its hi-tack so its probably very good but it takes forever to dry! So it took about 4 days to seal all my wefts- front and back)

20141016_102555

So now that my hair is ready, I just need to find time to install it. As always I will be doing 1 , 3 and 5 months updates then from there on as I feel like it. Really looking forward to what I can do with this hair.

Ps hairfinity challenge going strong. Cant wait for month 1 update on the 2nd of November. Stay tuned!

Peace out. Xx

TTPR- ORS Edge Control

edge control

ORS formally known as olive oil organic root stimulator ( So no, I havenot made a mistake)

Another product that is no old news to the junkies so let’s get right to it!

TTP!

Claims?- superior hold and shine

Does it work?- more or less, depending on your technique.( Sarah are you trying to tell me there is a way of applying edge control? YES. So I have natural hair so my edges are curly. For this to work on my hair I CANT just apply and bounce NO. I have to either use it on top of Eco Styler Styling Gel Krystal Clear 900 gm (click the link to check it out on Amazon) OR apply water to dampen my hair first then use. TIP_ apply hair gel with a toothbrush( but I’m sure you knew that already. NO? thank me then LOL)

Proof? – Youtube reviews, and I’m on my second container.

Safe?- first ingredient is water

Bonus?- this is difficult. hmm Can last all day depending on weather conditions. If you leave the container open for a while, the product tends to harden. I found it a bit difficult to spread.

Price?- £2.99 more or less. dependent on location. Check out Paks, Ace etc

Here it is in the glorified ORS packaging. I was right.  click on the picture to check it out on Amazon for only £1.97!

That’s all for now

As always

Everyday Inspiration- Regal Fro

Hey guys! So I’m back with another post in my everyday inspiration series! This time, the beautiful Regal Fro joins the many women on here sharing her inspirational story and advice for natural hair. So sit back and relax and get to know Regal Fro!

“Regardless of how you choose to wear your hair, remember you are a naturally beautiful woman.”- Regal Fro

regalfro31. Tell me about yourself- where you were born, your name, age what do you do?

I am a 34 year old, mental health advocate/inspirational speaker from Mississippi.

2. Where there a lot women with natural hair from your hometown/ where you were born?

I no longer reside in my hometown. However, I see women who are wearing their hair in its natural state daily.

3. Ok, with this in mind, did you find it any easier or more difficult to transition to natural hair?

It was only difficult because I didn’t have anyone I knew personally to turn to for hairstyling tips. Once I realized that I could get styling tips from naturals on YouTube, things became easier.

4.Now the big one- why did you choose to transition? Can you remember the date? How long has it been?

I began my transition because my daughter wanted to know why her hair wasn’t “flat” like other girls. I transitioned for 16 months. I began in August 2011, and I cut off my relaxed ends on Dec. 31, 2012.

5. Did you feel that making that decision was hard for you especially when most of the women around you had silky straight hair?

I made the decision to return to natural hair because of my daughter. As a result, I really was not concerned about how other women around me wore their hair. In addition, I never felt criticism from those around me regarding my decision to return to natural hair. I had to remember that I was once one of those women who had “silky straight hair”.

regalfro26. Cool, now let’s talk hair products, hair routines- did you have to change any of your hair products?

Yes. My transitioning hair was totally different from both my relaxed and natural hair. When my hair was relaxed, I only used shampoo, conditioner, and oil once a week. During my transition, I keep the same shampoo and conditioner but had to switch oils. I also had to apply oil more frequently and use styling products. The products I used were: Garnier shampoo and conditioner, almond oil, and flax seed gel.

7. What products have helped you maintain your natural hair?

Currently, I use the following products on my hair:

-Clarifying: Apple Cider Vinegar

-Conditioning: Garnier Fructis Triple Nutrition Conditioner & 3-Minute Undo Dryness Reversal Treatment

Moisture: Cantu Natural Hair Coconut Curling Cream

Oil: Cococare Castor Oil

Stylers: Eco Styler Gel with Argon Oil, Homemade Flaxseed Gel, and Garnier Curl Calm Down

8.Has there been a change in your hair routines? Like the number of times you wash your hair a week, how you protect your hair when you sleep? Protective styling? ( weaves, braids, ponytails)

My routine is simple. I clarify and co-wash my hair once every 15 -17 days. I deep condition once monthly and moisturize daily.  I protect my hair at night with a satin bonnet or scarf. I am not a big fan of protective styling because I enjoy wearing my hair out. However, during my transition, I wore mini twists for the last few months.

9. A lot of women I have spoken to say they want to go natural but find there are hardly any products for them. Can you recommend good hair products and if possible where to get them?

I rarely recommend products to people because I keep the products I use to a minimum. In addition, I do not switch products often. I would say that I companies have done an excellent job in developing products for natural hair. Product accessibility is probably better than it has ever been. If you are in an area that does not have retailers that carry natural hair products, then I recommend that you search the websites of large retailers such as Walmart, Target, and Walgreens. If you are unsure about what products to use, or would like to try various product, I would recommend a natural hair subscription box service such as Curlbox or Curl Collection. With your subscription you get products sent to you and you are able to test out the products. This can be helpful in saving time and money.

10. Would you advice any women to go natural? And why?

I believe that deciding to return your hair to its natural state is a personal decision that a woman should be allowed to make without pressure. In my opinion, it is a matter of respect. I wanted people to respect the fact that I wanted to transition back to natural. Therefore, I want to respect the decision of any woman who decides that having natural hair is not for her.

11. And finally what the best piece of advice you would give to a woman who has just decided to go natural?

Connect with other naturals as soon as you can and utilize social media outlets. Never be afraid to ask a natural via social media about products, styling tips, or just to vent. Normally, you will find someone who has tried the products, will tag you in a style photo, or experienced something similar. In other words, CONNECT, CONNECT, CONNECT!!!! You do not have to go on this journey alone.

12. If you want to add anything else please feel free to do so.

Regardless of how you choose to wear your hair, remember you are a naturally beautiful woman.

If you want to connect with me, you can check out my YouTube channel Regal Fro or follow me on Instagram @ regal_fro

regal fro1

That’s all folks! Make sure you check out her YouTube and Instagram profiles! You can also find her on Facebook. Take her advice and CONNECT, CONNECT CONNECT! Trust me it makes such a big difference and helps! A LOT! She has some beautiful hair and rocking it to its full potential!

P.S- CurlBox and Curl collection are only available in the US to my knowledge. And I am waiting that the Good Lord will touch the owners’ hearts so they can start shipping across the pond to the UK too. (LOL). But if you’re in the UK and want to check out any new products or try any Regal mentioned, PaksComestics is your best chance or online at britishcurlies.com. Of course there is always Amazon/EBay and the others

I’m out of here as I have to go to uni now for my final business presentation( wish me luck!) but I will catch you guys soon! So wherever you are Good morning, good afternoon or evening!
