Best of the Decade: Second Cleansers

This year I fell hard for double-cleansing. After I discovered that I could use makeup remover clothes from Primark ( they remove makeup with just water) with my balms, I fell in love.  Double cleansing has definitely helped improve the texture of my skin and this year, I have tried a few balms and oils. These are the ones that stood out.

  1. Beauty Pie Japanfusion Transforming Cleanser– I discovered this when I was doing my BP challenge and instantly fell in love. I finished this product in 2 weeks! The texture and performance are really top-notch and if you are a member of BP you get this for drugstore prices. Review

  1. Farmacy Green Clean– this product is a classic Instagram made me do it… but it’s so worth it. it melts ever so easily and removes all traces of makeup! it’s a must. Review

  1. Emma Hardie Moringa Cleansing balm– a skincare community fav, I finally used it last year or the year before and I really liked it.

  1. Tribalm- I was very intrigued with this product. It’s cleansing balm in stick form, it was the first for me and I really loved it. Review

  1. Superdrug Vitamin E Cleansing oil- Superdrug Vitamin E range is great and tis product is one of my favourites. The oil cleansing the skin and rinses off easily.

  1. Beauty Pie Plantastic Apricot Cleansing Balm– BP’s star product, I waited about 7 months for this product to come back in stock but after I got my hands on it, I can see why it’s so popular. The texture is like butter and it removes all makeup plus it rinses so easily. I need a backup! review

Do you love cleansing balms and oils? What do you use as a first cleanse? Double cleansing helps to ensure all makeup and debris are thoroughly removed. Technically you can use anything for double cleansing e.g two face washes but its best to use an oil-based cleanser first then a gel/foam cleanser afterwards. You can also use micellar water.

I hope your Christmas went well. Catch you later for the next instalment

Superdrug Vitamin E Dual Phase Cleansing Oil Review

I love Superdrug’s Vitamin E range: it’s affordable, easily accessible and has effective products! I have used a few products from the ranged and loved them so I am always looking to see if they have added new products to the collection.

Superdrug Vitamin E Dual Phase Cleansing Oil is formulated to remove mascara and makeup, leaving the skin soft and clean.

Experience

The two phases in this are water and oil and you mix the two by shaking before using. I fell in love with cleansing balms and oils late last year which was then I picked this up. The product as the same scent as the other Vitamin E products: its pleasant and not overwhelming. I have not experienced any irritation with this.

I use this cleansing oil as the first step in my routine. I pair this with a makeup remover cloth always even when I have no makeup on. I have used this with a cotton pad (as recommended). in my palms and massaged onto the face and on the makeup remover cloth and I must say I prefer the later method.

This cleansing oil is great at removing makeup and mascara! It’s so easy and effortless and removes a lot of makeup in one swipe. It doesn’t leave residue behind. It doesn’t drag and feels gently on the skin. My only con with the product is that the oil feels quite heavy on the skin and I notice this upon initial application. The oil rinses away easily afterwards

Verdict

A great drugstore cleansing oil. This is very effective against mascara (even waterproof) and makeup. It feels a bit heavy on the skin but washes away with a 2nd cleanse. It doesn’t clog pores and the heavy feeling goes after washing your face. It’s cheap and its almost always on offer in Superdrug. I will definitely recommend

Superdrug Vitamin E Dual Phase Cleansing Oil is £3.49 on Superdrug

Burt’s Bee’s Facial Cleansing Oil Review

Burt’s Bee’s have been a staple drugstore brand on the British Highstreet known for their amazing lip balms and their natural skincare products. I was recently introduced to their lip balms this year and let me just say, they are worth the hype! I was sent a mini sample of their Facial Cleansing Oil which I have been using and I thought I would share my thoughts on the product.

Burt’s Bee’s Facial Cleansing Oil is 100% natural and made with coconut and argan oil. The oil is free from parabens, petrolatum, SLS and phthalates but rich in antioxidants and natural moisturizers. It’s supposed to gently remove dirt and makeup without an oily residue. The oil is suitable for normal to dry skin types. (Find out how to determine your skin type in my previous post here)

Experience

The Burt’s Bee’s Facial Cleansing Oil has a great scent and very effective against makeup. I’m starting to venture out and experiment with different types of makeup removers and I must say this cleansing oil is very nice.

I pour a small amount of the oil in my hands and massage in circular motions on dry skin. It works quickly to break down makeup and mascara. It also works great against liquid lipsticks. I cleanse my face with the oil twice, rinsing with warm water each time. My skin is left feeling soft but with no oily& heavy feeling. It doesn’t dry out my skin. To test how effective the Facial Cleansing Oil is, I follow with my Vanity Planet Spin for Perfect Skin Face Brush, and there is little to no makeup residue on the brush!

I haven’t experienced nay irritation from the Burt’s Bee Facial Cleansing Oil and it hasn’t clogged my pores. Although Burt’s Bee says the oil is for Normal to Dry Skin Types, I found the oil worked well with my Normal/Combo Oily skin type.

My only con is that I find the dispenser on the bottle atrocious. The oil hardly comes out so I have to unscrew the cap to use it but this may be because it’s a mini sample. The full-size product of Burt’s Bee’s comes in a pump bottle which may be easier to use.

Verdict

If cleansing oils are your thing then the Burt’s Bee’s Facial Cleansing Oil is right up your street! 100% natural ingredients, great scent and an effective deep cleansing makeup remover what more could you ask for?

The Burt’s Bee’s Facial Cleansing Oil is £16.99 available from Burt’s Bee’s

Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil Review

simple hydrating cleansing oil review

Simple skincare is one of my fav drugstore brands, their Light Replenishing Moisturiser was the very moisturiser I bought! Recently, they have added a lot of products to their arsenal and one of those is the Hydrating Cleansing oil. I got the oil in one of the You Beauty Box some time back. (Read my review of one of their boxes here)

The Simple Hydrating Cleansing Oil is made with pure grapeseed oil as well vitamins A & E. The oil has been formulated for sensitive skin but suitable for all skin types as well. Simple promises this product will gently remove your makeup and leave your skin hydrated and soft with no greasy residue.

Experience

I haven’t been the biggest fan of cleansing oils although there a few I have enjoyed using. This one of Simple is very nice and dare I say my fav one so far! I found it very simple to use- just massage over makeup and rinse with water!

I am very impressed with the effectiveness of the product. It very easily breaks down face makeup like foundation and powder and it’s a breeze for mascara even waterproof ones. The first rinse actually takes off a lot of makeup and depending on how much I’m wearing I can skip a second rinse (but I always go in with it anyway). After rinsing, my skin feels hydrated with no oily/greasy residue. It also works well with wiping your face with a warm face towel instead of rinsing. The oil doesn’t clog pores either.

The oil doesn’t leave makeup residue either, after washing with my Vanity Planet SPS Face brush, there isn’t a lot of residue on the brush which I am very impressed about! They recommend you use 2-3 drops for your entire face but I found this wasn’t enough so I used a lot more than that.

Verdict– if you love cleansing oils, you definitely have to pick this one up from Simple! It simply works! (See what I did there?) And I really love that it doesn’t leave an oily feeling behind and gets off all your makeup!
