Bodycare

Did you catch the bathing/showering debate on twitter? Last year it was ‘not washing your legs because the water from the upper body trickles down’, this year it’s ‘not showering until you see dirt on the skin’.

We don’t do that here lol, we shower, wash our legs and use lotion!

Here are some of the stuff I use to take care of my skin below

Body scrubs

Ive tested a lot of scrubs in my day 3 products stick out: Sanctuary Salt Scrub, Soap &Glory Scrub of your life and a recent favourite Boots Ingredients Glycolic body peel

Body lotions &SPF

The only one I’ve been sticking to for the last year or 2 is the Nivea Vitamin C plus Q10 lotion. Its lightweight and non greasy plus vitamin skin to help brighten the skin. Other good body moisturisers are the Superdrug Vitamin E cream and Garnier body lotions.

Of course if the skin’s out the SPF is a must, I love the Nivea Protect &Refresh SPF50 mist

Body sponges

I use the African sponge in my daily shower routine. It gently exfoliates and leaves my skin feels super smooth. If that’s too harsh or can’t get access to them, try the exfoliation gloves or puffy sponges

Footcare

For a pedicure at home, I have the Emoji micropedi which helps to smooth and heels and remove hard skin. I also love foot masks for an additional boost of moisture. The poundland foot sock masks are actually very good.

Body Masks

For an extra dose of pampering, I use a body mask the day after using a body scrub. I tend to use natural clays like bentonite or rhassoul clay.

The Solution Vitamin C Brightening Body Lotion

I was randomly browsing Superdrug one day when I came across the Solution brand. It is a bodycare range with active ingredients that target a range of skincare concerns. The major issue I have is hyperpigmentation so naturally I was very interested in the Vitamin C Brightening Body Lotion & the Retinol Smoothing lotion

The Vitamin C body lotion is made with Vitamin C, A, E and Licorice for instant radiance and glow. They say its 1.76% active ingredients

Experience

I have been using this lotion at night intermittently for a month now and I simply do not LIKE it which is why it’s taking me so long to finish. The main reason why I don’t like this lotion is because it’s full of mica. Mica is that ingredient in products that gives it shimmer so this lotion leaves a shimmery mess on my skin. What makes this worst is that I have to layer the lotion on because it’s not hydrating enough so with every layer, I’m adding more shimmer to my skin. This then leaves a shimmery silver mess that makes my skin look ashy! I’ve tried to take pics but its difficult to capture

Now I love body illuminators and body makeup and I will always use something shimmery  on my body when its out BUT I don’t LIKE shimmer in my skincare especially if its promising to brighten because brands think adding mica will make the consumer think it’s working ( after all your skin is shiny!). Mica aside I also haven’t seen any improvements in my skin tone and its just not hydrating enough. These aside, it has a fresh citrusy scent and its very lightweight

Verdict

I really liked the retinol body lotion and saw improvements in my skin tone but the Vitamin C lotion is a huge miss for me. I don’t have dry skin but I do like to feel my skin is hydrated and moisturised and this doesn’t do that for me. I also don’t like the shimmery silver mess it leaves on my skin

I won’t repurchase.

Summer Bodycare Edit

I’m praying for a great summer this year! (Do you guys remember summer 2018?!)

Do you change your bodycare routine in the summer? Or would you consider it? This post will be about bodycare routines for summer (all year round really) and product recommendation on where to begin. By the way, did y’all catch the great leg washing debate on Twitter a few months back? If you haven’t been washing your legs and want to start you can pick up some tips here lool

Body Washes/Scrubs/Moisturisers

For the last 2 years I have been using African Black soap faithfully, now that I have run out and I have gone back to soaps. I like Dove Beauty Bar soaps because they lather well and do not leave my skin dry. I also want to experiment with making my own soaps. I par with my African sponge to scrub my skin clean

I have been loving body scrubs since last year and I regularly add them to my routine. It started as a pamper session for special occasions but I got addicted to how soft and smooth and skin felt afterwards. I have used quite a few, but my favs are Soap & Glory Flake Away*, Scrubz of London and Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Body Scrub*. If you have sensitive skin or eczema I may not recommend these (I don’t have this skintype is I do not know how it will react to scrubs), I recommend using them once every 2 weeks (I tried to do once a week but let’s be realistic who has time?). I also Like the Dove Body Scrub

After washing, I like to follow up with a body lotion/moisturiser to ensure moisture is locked into the skin. I love body butters and prefer my own DIY shea butter mixes. When I can’t be bothered to make mine, I really like Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Moisturising Body Oil*- its non-greasy and sinks into the skin.

Body masks

Are body masks really necessary? Not really but I like using them. If I have time I will scrub and mask in one pamper session but I usually do a mask the next day after a scrub. My favourite one is from Bodyshop which has been discontinued! But I love Bentonite clay as well. I have a few deadsea masks from Israel I also love.

SPF

Did you think I won’t mention SPF? If your legs/any part of your body is out then you need to protect them from the sun (this is not the same as not washing them because they are in trousers LOL). I now use my face SPF for my body but I used to use a separate body SPF but the one I loved (Boots Soltan Kids SPF 50) has changed. I think. The formula isn’t the same and it’s no longer invisible on my skin. I also find the face SPF’s feel much lighter compared to the body SPF and they are less sticky.

Deodorants

Please for goodness sake its hot and humid out, please use deodorant! There is nothing worst on getting on the tube and smelling hot armpits. Mitchum roll-ons are AMAZING. They keep me dry and odour free BUT they also leave white marks and sometimes I find them quite drying. I wish I could find something else like it without the white marks.

Dove Exfoliating Body Scrub Macadamia and Rice Milk Review

Dove Exfoliating Body Scrub Macadamia and Rice Milk Review

What’s your pamper routine like? Mine involves a good body scrub, mask and luxurious butter! I have used a few body scrubs in the last year and one of these is the Dove Exfoliating Body Scrub in the Macadamia and Rice Milk scent. The body scrubs come in 3 scents but I opted for the soft baby powder scent of the macadamia and rice milk scent.

Dove Exfoliating Body Scrub Macadamia and Rice Milk promises to leave your skin silky smooth and soft by gentle exfoliation. It uses crushed macadamia nuts as natural exfoilants and its also deeply nourishing thanks to Dove’s moisturising cream

Experience

I have had this scrub for a while and I am also out of it. I probably use it about 2 to 3 times a month. I find the scent subtle and it isn’t overpowering and doesn’t linger when the scrub is washed off.

The scrub has ‘fine’ grains and you can see the crushed macadamia nuts in it but they are not chunky. I find the scrub gritty and it’s good enough to get the job done, it’s thick and feels creamy and very easy to scope out of the tub. I do pair it with a sponge, very light pressure and rub in circular motions on dry skin all over my skin. I haven’t had a reaction to the scrub.

I find it very easy to wash off and it leaves my skin soft and smooth. This comes in a big 225ml tub so it will last you a while since you are not using it every day.

Verdict

It’s a good budget-friendly body scrub and the big size means it will last a while. My skin isn’t dry after washing it off but it’s not deeply moisturised either. It’s comfortable and I really like that about this product. The scent isn’t overpowering and it doesn’t linger on the skin.

Dove Exfoliating Body Scrub Macadamia and Rice Milk is £5.99 in Superdrug
