Real Techniques Brush Cleanser Review

real2

Real Techniques brushes are the bomb, (that buffer brush tho *insert heart faced emoji*) they are affordable and really good quality! Had them for 3 years and not a single hair has shed! Anyway this post isn’t about that.  Real Techniques have recently released their new Real Techniques Brush Cleanser which I was able to get my hands on in my You Beauty February box! Read a review on it here

I got two sample sachets but it was enough to get a good grasp of the product. I just have to say I thought I would use the two sachets in one go but boy was I wrong lol. I used each sachet 7ml for 13 brushes in one wash and 17 brushes on the other wash excluding sponges!  I used this in conjunction with my facial cleansing pad from Primark. I say this to say a little goes a long way. I used about half of a sachet to make a small amount of soapy water to pre-soak my brushes upside down for a while then wash them by swirling it on the pad whilst the others soak. It’s really effective on the brushes, after one wash I can see all if not most of the brown makeup lol go (you know when you use a white makeup brush and it goes brown because of all the makeup build-up then you wash it and its restored lol that feeling is super-duper lol clearly I’m too happy because it’s April which means it’s my BIRTHDAY MONTH, anyway back to the review)

real

It also smells really good! But I actually like that it doesn’t linger when the brushes dry. It works excellent with the facial pad too, I usually wash my brushes in my palm but I found it didn’t really help with getting the makeup out, nothing is more annoying than rinsing out the soap from the brush and realising there is still makeup in the brush because you haven’t deep cleaned it enough. Using the pad and the cleanser really helped prevent that. Although I didn’t have enough to really clean my sponges, I was still able to get it about 40% clean when I used a little cleanser on it. I definitely wish I had more for a thorough wash of my sponges though.

Verdict- I really like this! It’s really effective on brushes and gets the job done. I normally use African Black soap to wash my brushes but I wouldn’t mind this too.

Real Techniques Brush Cleanser is priced at £6.99 on Superdrug

NEW! Garnier Moisture Bomb Skincare collection

garnier time bomb

Hey guys! I hope everyone is doing great! You guys seem to love my NEW series where I bring you the latest product releases from some of your favourite companies! I will keep them coming

Today’s post is no different, Garnier (did you see what they sent me in the Exclusive Beauty Bloggers Pack? Find out here!) is probably one of the best drugstore brands when it comes to skincare and one of my top 5 skincare brands too! Their products are always effective and well-priced and almost always on offer in Superdrug. Read my review on the Pure Active range here

I have been seeing adverts for their latest collection: Moisture Bomb which looks like it’s been catered for dry skin types. So far there are only two products in the range: 3 in 1 day cream and Night gel cream

3 in 1 Day Cream; said to provide deep hydration up to 5 skin layers, provide UV protection (SPF 10) and smooth the skin. They also describe the texture as soft, light weight, non-greasy and silky with a refreshing scent.

What I am really liking about this is the packaging: it comes in a pump bottle and you don’t see that every day in the drugstore!

Night Gel Cream- apparently features water break textures (inspired from Asia) for the ultimate hydration experience! It replumps and provides 72hr moisture while you sleep.

Ingredients; the main ingredients in this collection are Pomegranate and Alma which both have antioxidant benefits for the skin. Pomegranate provides excellent moisture benefits whilst the Alma works to protect the skin from oxidative stress

Both products are priced at £7.99 and are available from FeelUnique and Superdrug. I am really hoping they expand this range soon with a face wash and mask!

The product junkie in me wants to buy this but I have so many products in my arsenal I am trying to finish everything before I buy new ones! My goal this year is to try and finish everything without getting new products( impossible I know) but so far so good ( actually I bought 2 lipsticks from Colour Pop but come one COLOUR POP in the UK I just had to ok). I been tempted though urgh and since it’s my birthday month ( EPIC giveaway coming soon) hmm and I also have a list of brands I want to try this year LOL

For more info, visit the Garnier website

Anyway let me know if you will be trying this range. What are your fav skincare brands? x

Cailyn Makeup Perfecting Primer Review

cailyn makeup perfecting primer

Hey guys, I hope everyone is well! Happy new month! Birthday month!!! Whoopppp.  It’s been such a long time I blogged, I took a break because I wasn’t feeling well but now I am feeling much better and almost fully recovered! To kick things off again, we will be talking about the Cailyn Makeup Perfecting Primer I received in the February MyChocobelle Box, to read the full review and the other goodies in the box click here. I have been testing out the primer ever since and I can now bring you a full review on it.

So the primer claims to give a flawless and silky finish to your makeup. It says it will fill in fine lines, pores and wrinkles for instant smoothness and allow makeup to easily glide over your skin.  It also contains Vitamin E which enhances your natural glow and keeps your skin hydrated.

It’s a clear light weight formula and the scent kinda reminds me of pen ink lol.  It feels a bit silky too. This primer didn’t really make a huge difference to my makeup. I was really disappointed because it makes really big claims right? It is light weight as it claims but I found it didn’t do nothing for my pores or fine lines. It does give a slight glow to the skin but I also find I had to wait a bit for it to ‘dry’ if you know what I mean. It terms of helping my makeup stay a bit longer, I didn’t notice any difference.  It doesn’t claim to mattify so I did get my usual slightly oily t-zone after a while of wearing my makeup.

My verdict is- it’s ok, it didn’t impress me and when I checked the price to me it’s not worth that much. It’s very comparable to the GOSH Velvet Touch Cream Primer (£13.99) which I totally love and is available for less! Check out a review on it in my Makeup Primers 101 post. If you aren’t totally sold on whether you should use primer or not, that post is for you too!

Cailyn Makeup Perfecting Primer is priced at £25.50

Let me know which primers are your favourite!

Keep an eye out for my Birthday Giveaway which will be AMAZINGGGG lol

Love

Sarah xx

NEW! ColourPop Ultra Satin Liquid Lipsticks

colourpopo ultra satin

The liquid lipstick game is still going strong! Almost every brand has at least a matte liquid lipstick line to their name! One of the most affordable and well known matte liquid lipstick brands, ColourPop is back with a new formulation in the game! Introducing their new Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks! Matte lips are bomb! They are long lasting and most are transfer proof but some of them are not the most comfortable things to wear! The drying formula can leave your lips looking dry and cracked and without the proper prep to wear these, the whole look goes downhill.. FAST

The ColourPop Ultra Satin lipsticks promise comfort and a satin finish. From all the videos I have watched (guys, I watched a lot!), they look super pigmented and people say they are super comfy too. Beware though, it is not promising transfer proof or long lasting results (compared to their ultra-matte formula) but it looks like they stain lips. They are 16 shades in total (my birthday is coming up just to let you know and I only want 4 shades Frick n Frack, Panda, Magic Wand and Echo Park cough cough ) and it seems the most popular shade is Dopey which is sold out.

Anyway, enough rambling, check out these swatch videos!

Makeup from NewLook?!

overview

Would you get your next highlighter from Primark? Or that Spring ready nail colour from NewLook? Lately I have been noticing more and more fashion retailers propping up beauty counters by the tills or dedicating a whole section for skincare. I’m not sure when or who started the trend and I have always paid no attention because 1. I came here for some shoes and 2. I thought what could they possibly know about makeup, it’s just another gimmick to taking our money (And it always helped they didn’t have the right shades for my skintone anyway), until recently a chance encounter lead me to give makeup from the fashion retailer a go.

A couple of months back, I was searching for a matte top coat and bought one from Elegant Nails for £6.95. I was very disappointed by it, it wasn’t as matte as I would like and pretty pissed I spent 7 pounds on it! So I decided to look for another brand but cheaper in case it didn’t work too. I walked into NewLook and saw their Pure Colour Matte top coat for £2.99 and decided to give it a try. I also bought one of their matte nail colours. I LOVED the results, its super matte and fast drying and doesn’t chip or crack! I couldn’t believe NewLook, a fashion retailer got it right vs a brand that caters to nails.

newloook2

In January I was gifted some more beauty products from TopShop and Primark in my Blogger Box Swap. They are actually really good. The lipstick from TopShop is a dupe for Mac’s Mehr and the eyeshadow is beautiful! The brow gel is a bit too dark for me but it’s really good at holding the hairs in place.

Now I am also hearing a lot of buzz about Primark’s beauty and apparently they have a good range of shades. People like it and the price point? From £1. I used to love and still do, Primark False Eyelashes, the glue it comes with is very good! The last time I went to H&M in Oxford Street they had a beautiful makeup display and I was so tempted to get something. So what do you guys think? Will you be trying any new makeup from Primark? Or the next time you pop in TopShop? Marks & Spencer have even partnered with Rosie Huntington-Whitley for their Autograph makeup range. The only store I haven’t seen with their own brand of makeup yet is River Island but I’m sure they are in the making, they have perfume though. Next also has a pretty makeup line ranging from nails to lips and eye shadows and brushes but I didn’t see foundations in sight. I walked around my local shopping center, Croydon to take some pictures. The H&M didn’t have a display and Primark’s display wasn’t a pretty sight lol.

NEW! NIVEA Caring Micellar Water Review

new nivea caring micellar water

It’s no surprise I am obsessed with micellar water ( I have a whole post dedicated to it, read it here). If you take a look through my REVIEW INDEX there are a few reviews on there! I have tried many brands so far: Garnier, Simple, L’Oréal and now Nivea. I even have Micellar face wipes

I picked up this product in Superdrug a while back and I have been testing it out ever since. This particular one is for normal skin types but I remember seeing one for sensitive and dry skin types too. It says it’s a 3 in 1 care cleanser for face and eyes and comes with Vitamin E. The description on the bottle says

  1. It removes eye makeup gently without rubbing and cares for beautiful eyelashes
  2. Cleanses deeply and effectively removes makeup
  3. Moisturisers and leaves skin feeling cared for. Skin feel refreshed and looks healthy and beautiful

It’s perfume free

What did I find?

The NIVEA Caring Micellar water is probably the best I have used when it comes removing eye makeup! It’s really easy and effortless. I usually let the cotton pad sit on my closed eyes for a few seconds and swipe! And in one swipe a lot comes off, I should add I usually use 2 mascaras or a primer + a mascara, in total I will have about 4 coats on. It also really leaves your skin soft and refreshed. My skin doesn’t feel dry at all.

I basically love everything about this! The size is my only problem lol but it seems 200ml is the standard size anyway.

I actually prefer this over the Simple Micellar water and the Garnier

I hope you check it out, its on sale for £1.99 RRP £3.99 from Boots

NEW! Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolour

revlon ultra hd matte

Matte liquid lipsticks, who hasn’t got them now? The craze still continues and it looks like Revlon have now joined the bandwagon! Yay! I saw this on their Instagram and I must say the colours look nice but I am not impressed by them, they all seem like your everyday standard colours. I am also expecting a lot from these, Revlon will be late in joining the liquid Matte Lipstick party so I hope they have used all this time to really get a good formulation down.

The Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolours which will retail for £7.99/£8.99 and will be available from Boots and Superdrug. It looks like a small range with only 6 shades (ones I have seen so far) but the colours look like they will suit most if not all skin tones.

I actually really like the packaging too, they look really cute. I found some brown girl skin friendly lip swatch videos for us brown beauties in case you wanted to see how they looked on. The nude looks really good and I think I could make it work with a lipliner ( urgh I hate lipliners though lool)

Official release date in the UK is the 16th of March but it’s already out in the States.

Let me know your thoughts? Matte lipsticks: are you done with the trend or do you want more? Comment below!

Konjac Sponge Review

konjac spongeKonjac sponges make big claims: gentle on the skin, gentle exfoliation, deep cleansing and many more! I hadn’t heard of them until I received it in my Chocobelle box and I have been testing out since then! I love trying new products so I put it to the test straight away.

The sponges are HARD when you 1st received them but become soft once they get in contact with water. They go slightly hard when dry but not as much as when you 1st get them. You can use them with/without a cleanser, both ways promising a gentle cleansing and effective experience. I have used it almost every day since I got it and I must say it is very GENTLE on the skin however I do not like them.

First of all I prefer the feel of ‘scrubbing’ myself clean(Hola if you’re from Ghana or you know about them African bathing sponges LOL) so this been very soft and gentle on my face felt weird ( I usually use a face brush to wash my face, see it in my current beauty favourites). I also used it without a cleanser and I just felt like I was passing a wet sponge over my face. In terms of my complexion, I haven’t noticed any difference at all. I mean it gets the job done, I prefer to use it with a cleanser which is my African Black Soap but I am no realllyyyy impressed by it.

I think this will be perfect for sensitive skin types or people who do not like the feel of a face brush. I really wanted to like this however I just don’t. I will carry on using it for a while to see if it changes my mind but for now I don’t like it because of how gentle it is lol (Is that weird?)

You can purchase the for £8.99 at Cult Beauty

Do you guys use Konjac sponges? Let me know!

Keeping Up With the Organics: Makeup & Skincare

Welcome back Peter Minkoff! He’s back with his 2nd article for my blog and this time he is sharing his knowledge on the why and what of organic beauty! Watch out for his recommendations too! Did you catch his 1st post on here? Read all about how to get your hair detoxed for spring here!

A transition from conventional beauty products to organic ones is much more significant than you probably think – it means opting for your health and overall well-being in the first place. Organics are highly-beneficial for many reasons, primarily because they will treat your skin gently and keep it nourished and rejuvenated with their unique formulation and natural ingredients. Even celebrities have gone crazy about these products. This shows that their reputation should not be neglected. Here are some of the ways to keep up with the organics in the best possible way.

Why Organics?

The production of organic beauty products requires specific ingredients that have been produced with unique methods of bio farming which exclude all kinds of toxins and pesticides harmful to our health. Such products don’t contain artificially added fragrances which frequently contain phthalates, substances that can trigger allergic reactions and other health problems. This means that organics are much gentler to your skin than conventional beauty products – their list of ingredients is appropriate for all skin type, even for people with sensitive skin. Regular products also include parabens, which are actually synthetic chemicals that can alter human endocrine system by mimicking our human body’s natural hormones. Accumulating such substances in your body can lead to serious health problems, one of which is cancer. As for organic products – they are free of parabens, which will definitely reduce your daily burden of chemicals.

Simplify Your Beauty Routine

Simplify Your Beauty Routine

The beauty industry nowadays offers a wide range of body creams, lotions and potions that supposedly do wonders. However, reality is much different. Such products often don’t live up to our expectations, which is exactly why you should keep your beauty routine simple. When it comes to day-to-day skincare products, all you need is a basic cleanser and toner, gentle scrub, appropriate moisturiser, and inevitable sunscreen. Just make sure that the label “natural” marks ingredients that are really natural, because some manufacturers tend to write that their products are something they actually are not.  On the other hand, the best way to know exactly what goes into your skincare products is to make your own.  Homemade face masks and scrubs that include ingredients such as eggs, honey, avocado and sea salt are amazing, particularly when you take into consideration that they are very inexpensive yet effective.

Celebrities & Organics

gwyneth-paltrow

Celebrities have gone crazy about the organics, starting with Gwyneth Paltrow who launched her own makeup collection (Juice Beauty). Her products are crafted from certified organic ingredients that include different vegetables, flowers, fruits and berries. Their prices are also great, and it is actually a good way to popularize such skincare products among the women all over the world. Miranda Kerr also owns organic skincare line, KORA Organics ,  she firmly believes in all-natural approach to beauty. When it comes to organic makeup, celebrity makeup artists absolutely adore 100 Percent Pure Naked Palette which is fruit-pigmented, so it creates completely natural, stunning look. It is very versatile, since it can be used both as an eye shadow and a blush. It’s also perfect for contouring, and its major advantage is definitely the fact that it is organic.

Organics We Love!

100 percent pure

I have been searching for perfect organic skincare products for quite a long time because the conventional ones simply weren’t working for me – starting with cleansers and toners which were too harsh for my skin, as well as moisturisers that whose formulation was just wrong. 100 Percent Pure skincare products are a truly amazing discovery for me because these are very lightweight which keeps my complexion fresh all day long. Organics are definitely a way of life, and I personally couldn’t agree more!

Do you guys use any organic beauty? Share your fav brands with us! I am always looking for new products/brands to try out!

I have to hand it to Peter for a very well written article! Make sure you check him out on Twitter and Facebook>>
