Beautylish Lucky Bag Unboxing

Hello everyone, I’m really excited to write this post because I finally got a Beautylish lucky bag!! Beautylish do these every year and for the longest time I wanted one. I decided to finally get one last year and it’ s arrived (although very delayed). So in this post we will go through the box and whether it was worth it

Beautylish Lucky Bags are once a year (26th Dec) and they are filled with random products. You choose your skintone range (I went for Dark to Deep) and pay for an original box $75, or an XL box $150. Your box is guaranteed to be worth double of what you paid. I actually wanted the XL box but due to the pandemic, they were only shipping original boxes to the UK

My box was due to be shipped on 17th Jan 22 but this was delayed and was shipped a week later.

See my Insta Reels unboxing

 I got

DANESSA MYRICKS BEAUTY ColorFix 24-Hour Cream Color Foil (Venus) – $18 USD

GOOD MOLECULES Gentle Retinol Cream- $8 USD

UNITS Orange Series Eye Set -$32 USD

UOMA BEAUTY Boss Gloss Liquid Marble (Cray Cray)-$22 USD

CHARLOTTE TILBURY Instant Eye Palette – Smokey Eyes Are Forever -$75 USD

WAYNE GOSS THE RADIANCE BOOSTING FACE PALETTE (Deep Cover)- $45 USD

Total- $200

Thoughts/Verdict

So the box is definitely worth more than double than what I paid for. In terms of the selection of products, I do not have any of these so that’s good. I am slightly disappointed with the Wayne Goss palette because of the shades. I think I can just about get away with this for bronzing/contouring but anyone darker than me wont. I personally don’t like dark purple lip glosses so I won’t be using UOMA beauty gloss.

The rest of the products are ok. I have a love/hate relationship with Charlotte Tilbury but I do like this palette. I’ve used Danessa Myricks Colorfix before and loved it. Good Molecules is a brand I love and always happy to get more brushes

Verdict

I think I would have preferred the XL box. Hopefully the XL box ships to UK this year otherwise I don’t think I would get another original bag. I definitely went into it with an open mind, I did want a Natasha Denona eyeshadow palette but I really like the CT one I got.

Glossy Box X Sunday Riley Limited Edition Review

Storytime!

I took the plunge and finally decided to try Sunday Riley, the cult US brand famed for their Good Genes serum! It is a luxury brand (aka high prices) so I have been hesitant until I saw the Flash kit on Beautylish which I wasted no time to purchase. For $28 (£21) you get 8ml of Good Genes and the Ceramic Slip Cleanser 30ml ( another popular product). I fell in love with Good Genes and around the same time Glossy Box announced their Sunday Riley limited box so guess what Sarah did?! I purchased a subscription box to get a £5 discount and priority access! Read my thoughts on their September box here

Anyway

Long story short, I got my hands on the box and it’s here! The box was £30 for non-subscribers and £25 for subscribers.

Contents

Blue Moon Cleansing Balm full size, worth £46

CEO Protect + Repair Moisturiser deluxe mini size 8ml, £12

CEO Brightening Serum deluxe mini size 15ml, £12

Luna Sleeping Oil deluxe mini size 4ml, worth £15

Tidal Brightening Enzyme Water cream deluxe mini size 8ml, £20

Total- £105

Thoughts

I think the box gives you a good introduction to Sunday Riley, it has everything for a full day & night routine. Blue Moon, Tidal and Luna are some of her most popular items so again you are getting some of her cult products.

I must admit I am slightly disappointed with the number of minis in the box. With only 1 full-size product and 4 minis, it was a bit of an anti-climax. I know both Tidal and the CEO moisturiser come in 14 ml sizes, it would have been nicer to receive one of these plus 3 minis instead of 1 full size and 4 minis.

On the other hand, you can’t get these mini sizes here in the UK (you can get the 14ml TIDAL here but the 14ml CEO moisturiser is available only on Beautylish (I haven’t seen it here yet)

Verdict

In addition to my Flash Kit, I now have a good range of Sunday Riley products, enough for a brand review? I love the full-size cleansing balm, I haven’t used it yet but I am loving cleansing balms this year so I am really looking forward to using it. I have a few trips this month so the mini sizes will definitely come in handy and they will be a very good addition to my travel skincare collection.

The box is absolutely worth it! I was slightly disappointed with only 1 full-size product but it’s still a very good box in my opinion and good value for money.

Did you get the box?!

Get ready: Beauty Advent Calendars are COMING!

GlossyBox September 2018 Unboxing and Review

GlossyBox is one of the UK most popular beauty subscription boxes. I have reviewed this before many years ago as part of my Beauty Box review series, to see that post, click here

September’s GlossyBox theme is Back to School which they say contains products to help you get prepped and organised. It comes with 6 products, 5 full sizes and 1 deluxe mini size. The contents are worth £64.16 when purchased separately but with GlossyBox you pay £10 plus £3.95 postage.

In the Back to School Box you get

BeautyPro Detoxifying Bubbling Mask with Activating Charcoal (full size)– worth £4.95

Daily Concepts Your Facial Mini Scrubber (full size) – worth £8.85

Bang Beauty Eyebrow Cream (full size) – worth £16.80

Karl Langerfeld + ModelCo Lip Liner in Rosewood (full size) – worth £25

Grow Gorgeous Scalp Detox (deluxe mini size) – worth £7.37

Wet Ones Be Fresh Antibacterial Wipes (full size) worth- £1.19

Swatches of the Eyebrow Cream & Lipliner

Overall thoughts

It’s not an exciting box, I haven’t heard of most of the brands but I think that’s the point of a monthly subscription box: you get introduced to different brands.

I like the colour and texture of the lip liner, it has great colour payoff and a creamy texture but I don’t know about the £25 price tag. The brow product is totally useless to me. It’s a very waxy pomade and the shade is a very ashy brown/grey that looks chalky/ashy on me. There are only 2 products I am actually looking forward to using- the facemask and the mini facial scrubber

I actually only got this box to gain priority access and a £5 discount off their Sunday Riley Limited Edition Box that is launching next week! I am so excited! I missed out on their last limited edition boxes ( La Mer and NARS) so I didn’t want to miss out on this too! I have recently tried Good Genes( I bought their Flash Kit from Beautylish) and I have really enjoyed it plus I have always wanted to try more from the brand.

PS- They are also releasing their 1st ever Beauty Advent Calendar! For more info on it, click here

Verdict

I don’t find the box exciting but it has some nice products and I have been introduced to new brands. It’s definitely worth a lot more than what you pay for but if you can’t use the items then it’s almost like mehh. I think when it comes to coloured cosmetics e.g. the brow product, it would be better if they had a few shades and given people the option to select their perfect shade

Are you a #glossie? What did you think of the September Back to School Edition box?

More importantly, are you looking forward to the Sunday Riley Box?

Treasure Tress Review

treasure tress review

Hey party people, I hope all is well with you. Countdown to Christmas! I can’t believe Christmas is almost here but first Thanksgiving which means Black Friday and Cyber Monday Sales!!! Anyway, I digress.

I realised I haven’t updated my beauty box series for a while. Make sure you catch my previous reviews on some of the UK’s monthly subscription boxes, I will leave some links below.

I have been able to get my hands on a Treasure Tress box this month! (FINALLY)! I have been eyeing this box for a while and I was so bummed I missed out on their last two boxes which were AMAZING! Anyway.. The format for my beauty box review series is super simple, I check the value of the box (when the products are bought separately) and compare it to the prices of the subscription, then you can decide whether to get it or ditch it. My main goal is to let WOC know if the mainstream boxes cater for us and the up and coming beauty boxes too. Simples. PS- I personally pay for all the boxes I review if any different, I will be sure to mention it but it doesn’t affect my review in anyway 🙂

Let’s get on this month’s box then.. The November box was a collab with Racheal, UK Afrolista and featured some of her fav products!

Contents

Crème of Nature Argan Oil Moisture & Shine Shampoo (12 FL Oz) – £3.29

CURLS Blueberry Bliss Curl Control Jelly- £18.49

TGIN Argan Replenishing and Hair Body Serum (120ml) – £ 11.99

Design Essentials Coconut & Monoi Deep Moisture Milk Crème – £9.50

Samples

Total – £43.27

Treasure Tress monthly box- £20 + £3.95 p/p

Verdict

The box is excellent value for money! It’s also very convenient for new naturals/ product junkies looking to experiment diff products and brands. A time saver too if you simply do not have the time to shop for hair products. I will definitely recommend you try Treasure Tress. It’s one of the very few UK monthly boxes that cater for WOC and natural hair. They also have amazing collabs with brands that you simply can’t afford to miss out on (I missed out on the TGIN box, I was so bummed!). What’s great about the service is that you can cancel anytime! This box is really great but I am not as excited as I was for the last two boxes ( Ok I need to let that go lool) BUT I definitely recommend the service!

BirchBox Review

Hey guys, I hope all is well. Let’s welcome BirchBox to our Beauty Boxes review series! To read all the previous beauty box reviews, please look under the Beauty Tab for Beauty Box Series. I am so excited to finally review BirchBox which is one of the most subscribed monthly beauty boxes in the UK! I got the July Box and a special discount code which gave me another box for free! So in this review, I will be talking about two boxes, July and March!

birchbox review

Let’s get started

The July Box was a theme box, a collab with Mille Mackintosh. It contained

LOC x Millie Ultra Gloss Lip Pencil in Bohemian Rose- £9 Full Size

John Frieda Frizz Ease Forever Smooth Anti- Frizz Primer- £9.99 Full Size

Nails Inc Special Effects Nail Varnish 4ml Mini Size

Caudalie Vinoperfect Radiance Serum 10ml Sample Size

Rituals Magic Touch Body Cream- £6.00 Travel Size

Total- £24.99

BirchBox monthly subscription – £10 + £2.95 P&P

 March Box Contents

LOC One and Done Shadow Stick in Empress Me- £8 Full Size

Yes to Cucumbers soothing Facial Towelettes -£1.99 Travel Size

Whish Coconut Milk CC Body Cream- 22ml Sample Size

So Susan Lip Dome Plumping Lip Tint in Black Currant- £10 Full Size

Amika Nourishing Mask- 20ml Sample Size

Extra Gift- Nuxe Masque Crème Fraiche de Beaute 50ml – £18.50

Total- £38.49

BirchBox monthly subscription – £10 + £2.95 P&P

Verdict- I have been waiting to review BirchBox for a long time, I never took the plunge because I wasn’t sure if the products will be suitable for my skin tone. I did it this month because of the 2 for 1 offer. I was slightly disappointed when I got my box, maybe it was the small box size but the packaging was really nice. Everything came in a drawstring bag which will be perfect for travelling. In terms of products, I got two full sizes in each box plus sample sizes. The product selection for the July Box didn’t excite me, I got the option of choosing between two John Frieda Products.  The Lip Pencil is described as suitable for everyone but it looks chalky against my skin tone.

I was supposed to get the June box as part of the offer but got the March Box instead which I don’t mind because I find it more exciting than the July Box. I am happy to receive the NUXE product as it’s on my list of brands to try this year. I have used the Yes to Carrots face wipes before so I am actually looking forward to the Yes to Cucumbers wipes. The Shadow Stick is a nice shade. My lips don’t need any more plumping lol so the Lip Tint will be given away. The CC Body Cream has a lot of shimmer and a coconut scent.

Overall, I think they are good value for money but I wish it came with more full-size products. I wasn’t as excited as I thought I would be with BirchBox, which is a shame because I have been waiting for a while to try it (I was excited to finally try BirchBox but not as excited about the boxes and products).  Maybe it’s the selection of products or I thought the box would be bigger, the box is so small.

What do you guys think?

The format for the Beauty Box Series is always the same, I look for prices of the items where possible and compare them to the price of the box to see whether they are value for money or not. Actual product reviews will always come later.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder

Gloww Box Review

Gloww Box is one of the few beauty boxes in the UK dedicated to women of colour. As part of my beauty box review series, I picked up the May box which featured an Ombre Lips look and products to help you achieve that.

glowwboxreview

Contents

Cailyn Pure Lust Extreme Matte Tint in Egoist– £13

Cailyn Luxe Lipstick in Neo Candy– £13

Saturated Colour Lip Vinyl in Passion Peach– £7

Cailyn Luxe Lipstick in Banana– £13

Cailyn Lip Liner Gel Pencil in Whisky Sour– £9

Saturated Colour Double Ended Lip Brush- £5.50

Total- £60.50

Gloww Box monthly subscription- £15 plus £3.95 p&p

Overall Thoughts

It’s bittersweet for me. I think the box is excellent value for money! The content is worth over £60 yet a monthly subscription is only £15! That is very good! On the other hand, I found this box rather boring. I personally don’t like the ombre lip look. I originally subscribed at the END OF MAY, after May boxes were shipped (or so I thought) I had seen this box on Instagram and wasn’t interested so I thought signing up at the end of May will get me June’s box which I was hoping won’t be makeup!

Also none of the colours actually excite me. I know I will definitely NOT be wearing the Banana shade. Egoist and Neo Candy are ok and the Passion Peach shade looks too light for my skintone so I will definitely have to pair with a liner! The only shade I actually liked was the lip liner in Whisky Sour.   I have included swatches of the lip colours below. The lip brush looks cool too although I don’t really use lip brushes.

Overall I am kinda torn, I have known about Gloww box for a while and was really looking forward to their box! You definitely get your money’s worth and more but for me I don’t think this is one of their strongest boxes. I will bring individual reviews on the products later.

What do you think? Did you received this box? Let me know your thoughts below!

Glossy Box Review

I have been eyeing Glossy Box for a while now and I am so happy I finally decided to get it for my birthday! The thing with beauty boxes is, it’s a 50/50 chance you will like the products you get. Been a #woc I am very sceptical of some of the products I will get, especially the makeup shades. Will it be suitable for my skintone? And I am aware they ask you to fill out a beauty profile but do they REALLY take that into account? Etc

Back to Glossy Box, the May Box focused on beauty essentials for travel. I got 5 products and a mini snack too!

glossy box review

Contents

Hawaiian Tropic Satin Protection SPF 30 – £5.99 from Boots

Revlon Ultimate All in one mascara- £9.99 from Boots

Absolute Velvet Lippie- £4.93 from Absolute

Ceptaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser

Bee Good Plump & Firm Moisturiser

Worth- £20.91

Glossy Box monthly subscription- £10 plus p&p

Overall thoughts

Do I think it’s worth it? Yes! You get a lot for the price you pay for the box. I believe I got a lot of mini sizes because the box focused on travel but I think Glossy Boxes have at least 1 full size product. Even so the mascara and lippie are full sized products and worth almost £15! I am really happy with the contents too, I have been searching for SPF for my body (atm I use my ultra-sun hand cream which has SPF for my legs and body lol) so the Hawaiian Tropic comes at a very good time, plus it’s been really sunny here in the UK lately. The Revlon mascara is new, and I am happy to have got the full size for so much less! The Velvet lippie feels very nice on and smells nice BUT the shade is totally wrong for my skintone, it’s very chalky on me so I would either use it as a topper of find a good lip liner for it. Ceptaphil cleanser I will definitely use as my new travel cleanser and I have the Bee Good moisturiser in full size although I haven’t started using it yet. All in all I am very happy with my very 1st Glossy Box!

You Beauty Box Review

Hey guys, I hope you are doing great! We are almost at the end of my Monthly box series which means the box reviews are going to start flowing in lol. I told you guys I purchased the February You Beauty Box and I am happy to say it’s arrived (that was super quick huh?)

Anyway let’s see what’s inside:

you beauty box review

Products I chose

Dr organic Dead Sea Mineral Bio-plasma Mud Mask, 100ml- £8.29 on Holland & Barrett ( full size)

Puriskin Resurfacing Cream, 15ml

Extras

Real Techniques brush cleansing gel, sample sachets

Philip Kingsley Elasticizer, 40ml – £9.50 on Philipkingsley

Vita Liberata self-tanning night moisture mask, 10ml, £3.99 on eBay

Total – £ 21.78

You Beauty Box – £6.95 including shipping

Verdict: it’s totally worth it! I like I was able to choose two products I was looking forward to getting plus the extras which is a nice surprise. The only thing I won’t be using is the self tanning mask. The mini beauty magazine has lots of info on all the products in their monthly short list PLUS discount codes for some of the products inside! I will definitely recommend this box- its budget friendly and you get more than what you pay for. It’s also a good starter box to have if you are not sure of which box to get.
